AUBURN, Alabama, November 8. THOUGH some racing experience was to be gleaned from today’s intrasquad meet at Auburn University, the main goal was raking in the cash for research to find a cure for multiple sclerosis.<\/p>\n

Head coach Brett Hawke’s wife, Trudi, was diagnosed with MS three years ago, and today’s meet raised $25,082 to help scientists find powerful treatment options for Trudi and others like her around the country. The team presented the check to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America after the meet.<\/p>\n

“We set an early goal of $5,000 per team when we started the event and they quickly met that goal,” Brett Hawke said following Friday’s meet. “Once we set a goal these kids reached and I’m very proud of what they’ve done for this cause.”<\/p>\n

The men’s and women’s swimming team split up into two groups, Orange and White, to race in some unorthodox events, including the 700 free relay and single-elimination races in the 50s of each stroke. The Orange team won the meet 191-76.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
