Melo touched first in 1:56.77, just ahead of\u00a0<strong>Leonardo De Deus\u00a0<\/strong>(1:56.95) and\u00a0<strong>Vini Lanza\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.04).<\/p>\n<p>De Deus&#8217; time was just short of the FINA A standard in the event, leaving Melo as the only qualifier in the event.<\/p>\n<p>The final of the women&#8217;s 200 fly was similar, with\u00a0<strong>Ilaria Cusinato\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Virginia Martin\u00a0<\/strong>racing neck and neck throughout the swim. Cusinato and Martin were out fast, and it was Cusinato who ultimately held on for the win in 2:11.03. Martin was just behind her in 2:11.63.<\/p>\n<p>The close races continued in the men&#8217;s 100 breast, with the top four finishers all touching under 1:00.\u00a0<strong>Joao Luiz Gomez\u00a0<\/strong>led at the 50, but\u00a0<strong>Felipe Lima\u00a0<\/strong>made a push in the second 50 to end up tying. Gomez and Lima both touched in 59.56.<\/p>\n<p>Just behind them in third was\u00a0<strong>Felipe Silva\u00a0<\/strong>(59.71), followed by just .01 by\u00a0<strong>Caio Pumputis\u00a0<\/strong>in fourth (59.72). That time puts Gomez and Lima as #13 in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#8217;s 100 breast was separated by just one-tenth, with\u00a0<strong>Macarenca Ailen Ceballos\u00a0<\/strong>touching out\u00a0<strong>Jhennifer Conceicao\u00a0<\/strong>1:08.27 to 1:08.37.\u00a0<strong>Julia Sebastian<\/strong>, who broke the South American record in the 200 breast earlier in the meet, was third here in 1:08.60.<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 1500 free closed the individual events of the evening, with another close race to close the session.\u00a0<strong>Guilherme Pereira da Costa\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Diogo Villarinho\u00a0<\/strong>traded the lead throughout the race, with Costa taking the win in 15:05.91 to Villarinho&#8217;s 15:06.80.<\/p>\n<p>The meet also closed with the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s 400 free relays.
