{"id":365019,"date":"2020-07-23T10:46:37","date_gmt":"2020-07-23T17:46:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=365019"},"modified":"2020-07-23T14:46:43","modified_gmt":"2020-07-23T21:46:43","slug":"one-year-out-a-look-at-updated-2020-tokyo-olympics-schedule","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/one-year-out-a-look-at-updated-2020-tokyo-olympics-schedule\/","title":{"rendered":"One Year Out, a Look at Updated 2020 Tokyo Olympics Schedule"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>One Year Out, a Look at Updated 2020 Tokyo Olympics Schedule<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the rescheduled 2020 Olympic Games, due to COVID-19, exactly one year away, here is another look at the schedule for next summer.<\/p>\n<p>The Opening Ceremony is now on July 23 and the Closing Ceremony is on Aug. 8.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The swimming competition begins on July 24 and runs through Aug. 1.<\/li>\n<li>Diving starts July 25 and goes through Aug. 7.<\/li>\n<li>Artistic swimming is in the second week of competition, beginning Aug. 2 and ending Aug. 7<\/li>\n<li>Water polo begins July 24 and runs through Aug. 8 with gold medal matches on Aug. 7-8.<\/li>\n<li>The open water swimming will take place Aug. 4-5.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall, there are 33 sports and 339 medal events. Medals are going to come from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2020-tokyo-olympic-medals-will-come-from-100-recycled-material\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">100% recycled material<\/a>. Check out the complete schedule of competition for all sports <a href=\"https:\/\/tokyo2020.org\/en\/games\/schedule\/olympic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Fans anxious to get a look at the new Olympic sports and events will have their first chance with 3&#215;3 basketball, which tips off July 24. One new sport not beholden to a schedule is surfing.<\/p>\n<p>The competition technically gets underway July 25, but due to wave conditions, will have to be flexible and has the entire duration of the Games to run, if needed.<\/p>\n<p>Japanese fans will no doubt be hoping their national baseball team will be playing for the gold medal on Aug. 7 in that sport\u2019s return to the Olympic program.<\/p>\n<p>Karate also makes its debut in the place of the sport\u2019s birth, with final bouts Aug. 5-7.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swimming Event Schedule (2020 Tokyo
