{"id":364930,"date":"2019-04-16T11:53:19","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T18:53:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=364930"},"modified":"2019-04-16T11:53:19","modified_gmt":"2019-04-16T18:53:19","slug":"2019-french-championships-day-1-beryl-gastaldello-just-misses-world-cut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2019-french-championships-day-1-beryl-gastaldello-just-misses-world-cut\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 French Championships Day 1: Beryl Gastaldello Just Misses World Cut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first night of finals at the 2019 French Swimming Championships had some fast swims by some of the biggest names in France.<\/p>\n<p>Plenty is on the line in this meet as swimmers look to qualify for world championships and other international competitions.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveffn.com\/cgi-bin\/resultats.php?competition=59299&amp;langue=fra&amp;go=epreuve&amp;epreuve=72\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LIVE RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 100 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>The meet started with the 100 fly and <strong>Beryl Gastaldello<\/strong> surged ahead early and hung on to win in 57.69.<\/p>\n<p>The Texas A&amp;M All-American finished 16 hundredths off a world championships qualifying time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Marie Wattel<\/strong> finished second in 58.00, followed by <strong>Lena Bousquin<\/strong>, who finished in 59.56.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth place went to <strong>Anais Arlandis<\/strong> and <strong>Josianne Valette<\/strong>, who tied in a minute flat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mathilde Descamps<\/strong> finished sixth in 1:00.84, followed by <strong>Amilia Pigree<\/strong> (1:02.84).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margaux Fabre<\/strong> was disqualified.<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 400 IM<\/h2>\n<p>Swiss star <strong>Jeremy Desplanches<\/strong> won the 400 IM at the French meet, finishing well ahead of the pack in 4:12.86. He lowered his own Swiss record in the event.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the field in the finals was French.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Samy Helmbache<\/strong>r finished second in 4:18.17, followed by <strong>Antione Marc<\/strong> (4:18.43) and <strong>Clement Bidard<\/strong> (4:29.30).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leon Marchand<\/strong> finished fifth (4:19.78), followed by <strong>Geoffrey Renard<\/strong> (4:20.04), <strong>Emilien Mattenet<\/strong> (4:26.33) and <strong>Baptiste Colomas<\/strong> (4:30.90).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 50 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>The men\u2019s 50 fly came down to the touch and <strong>Mehdy Metella<\/strong> got his hands on the wall first in 23.56 to hold off <strong>Jeremy Stravius<\/strong>, who finished just behind in 23.58.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Yonel Govindin<\/strong> was third (23.84), followed by <strong>Pierre Hendry Arrenous<\/strong> (24.18), <strong>Nicolas Vermorel<\/strong> (24.23), <strong>Thomas Pipron<\/strong> (24.26), <strong>Serguei Comte<\/strong> (24.28) and Algeria\u2019s <strong>Oussama Sahnoune<\/strong> (24.43).<\/p>\n<p>No one reached the world standard of 23.30.<\/p>\n<h2>Women\u2019s 400 Free<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Anna Egorova<\/strong> of Russia held off the competition to win in 4:10.73.<\/p>\n<p>The French national title went to <strong>Fantine LeSaffre<\/strong>, who finished in 4:12.07.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lara Grangeon<\/strong> finished third in 4:12.68, followed by <strong>Joana Desbourdes<\/strong> (4:124.95). <strong>Aurelie Muller<\/strong> was fifth (4:16.87), followed by <strong>Orlane Hita<\/strong> (4:19.43)<strong>, Nolwenn Nunes<\/strong> (4:20.08) and <strong>Oceane Cassignol<\/strong> (4:28.34).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 100 Breast<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Theo Bussiere<\/strong> was the only swimmer in the field to finish under 1:01 in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:00.31 to win the title.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Antoine Viquerat<\/strong> was second in 1:01.38, followed by <strong>Thomas Boursac Cervera Lortet<\/strong> (1:01.68).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thibault Capitaine<\/strong> was fourth (1:01.71), followed by <strong>Wassim Elloumi<\/strong> (1:01.97) of Tunisia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean Dencausse<\/strong> was sixth (1:02.15), followed by <strong>Theo Berry<\/strong> (1:02.89) and <strong>Matthias Loth<\/strong> (1:02.89).<\/p>\n<h2>Men\u2019s 1500 Free<\/h2>\n<p><strong>David Aubr<\/strong>y had the fastest time in the 1500 free, finishing in 14:54.42 to hold off the rest of the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Damien Joly<\/strong> was second in 14:56.96 as the top two finishers have qualified for worlds.<\/p>\n<p>Joly was, followed by <strong>Paul Beaugrand<\/strong> (15:15.94), <strong>Marc-Antoine Olivier<\/strong> (15:28.91),<strong> Joris Bouchaut<\/strong> (15:29.38) and Tunisia\u2019s <strong>Ahmed-Ayoub Hafnaoui<\/strong> (15:31.06).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mathias Castera<\/strong> was seventh (15:32.39) and <strong>Paul Barascud<\/strong> was eighth (15:37.60).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The first night of finals at the 2019 French Swimming Championships had some fast swims by some of the biggest names in France.
