PHOENIX, Arizona, October 31. JERRY Holtrey is leaving his 45-year post as head coach of the Hawken High School swim teams, but thankfully, he’ll still work with the young swimmers at Lake Erie Silver Dolphins in Cleveland.<\/p>\n
One of the swimmers he helped mold and guide to a place on the Olympic podium was Diana Munz. Munz swam in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics, winning two in Sydney and one in Athens.<\/p>\n
This week’s Throwback Thursday video brings you the first Olympic medal Munz won, a silver in the 400 freestyle. The event was a sweep for the United States, as Brooke Bennett took the gold medal — her first of three as well.<\/p>\n
Munz had to fight in the second half of the race, sitting in fourth place after 200 meters. Munz was a body length behind Janelle Atkinson and Claudia Poll at the 300-meter mark, but ran down the tiring swimmers and even outsplit Bennett.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
