LAKE OSWEGO, Oregon, October 28. THE Iowa Hawkeyes women’s swim team landed a strong sprinting addition to the roster with the verbal commitment from backstroke talent Rowan Hauber.<\/p>\n

Haber is mostly known as one of the youngest competitors at last year’s Olympic Trials. After qualifying for Trials as a 15-year-old in the 100 backstroke with a 1:03.63 in 2011, she placed 128th in the event in Omaha as a 16-year-old, getting crucial racing experience among the best in the country.<\/p>\n

Hauber made her rise in the ranks under coach Coley Stickels, first at Lake Oswego Swim Club in Oregon, then at Phoenix Swim Club. Hauber returned to Oregon and now competes with the Dolphins in Portland under coach Nacim Bouferrache.<\/p>\n

Hauber hasn’t reached her Trials qualifying time in the 100 back since posting the 1:03.63 in 2011, but she did post a lifetime best 54.99 in the short course yards version in placing second at the Oregon high school state championship last February.<\/p>\n

In addition to the 100 backstroke, Hauber also has strengths in the sprint freestyles. She hasn’t reached her best time in the 50-yard free of 23.62 in 2011, but a potential for improvement remains, something Iow head coach Marc Long saw when recruiting Hauber.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
