HUANGSHAN, China, October 28. THE Chinese National Championships kept on rolling in Huangshan with the Zhejiang province squad putting on a show with gold medal victories with regularity this evening. <\/p>\n
Zhejiang’s Xu Jiayu scorched the men’s 100-meter backstroke with a winning 53.61. That’s not far off his 10th-ranked season best of 53.43 from the Chinese National Games, and is one of the top times from the entire meet this week. Fujian’s Lin Taiqi took second in 55.41, while Beijing’s Zhang Yu pocketed third-place honors in 55.83.<\/p>\n
Zhejiang’s Fu Yuanhui rolled to yet another backstroke victory this week in Huangshan. After ranking fifth in the world with a 59.36 at the Chinese National Games in the 100-meter back, Fu cruised to a full second victory in the event with a 1:00.43 tonight. Hubei’s Chen Jie touched second in 1:01.51, while Beijing’s Cheng Haihua claimed third in 1:01.73. <\/p>\n
Another top name in China, Wang Shun of Zhejiang, grabbed the men’s 100-meter fly title in 53.09. Chinese Navy’s Wang Pudong finished second nearly a full second back with a 54.03, while Zhejiang’s Mao Feilian earned third in 54.08. <\/p>\n
With Asian record holder Ning Zetao sitting out the event, Zhejiang’s Lou Junyi captured the men’s 100-meter free in 50.34. Bayi’s Liu Junqu placed second in 50.46, while Beijing’s Liu Zhaochen snared third in 50.58. <\/p>\n
Yunnan’s Xie Zhi clinched the men’s 50-meter breaststroke to open the night with a 28.13, while Beijing’s Wang Shuai touched second in 28.39. Shanghai’s Shi Weijia rounded out the top three in 28.82. <\/p>\n
Zhejiang’s Bi Yirong dominated the women’s 400-meter freestyle finale with a 4:09.41, while Jiangsu’s Zhang Yufei touched second in 4:11.71. Bayi’s Yan Siyu earned third-place honors in 4:11.74. Shaanxi’s He Yun touched out Jiangsu’s Shi Jinglin, 2:29.19 to 2:29.39, in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke for one of the closest finishes of the night. Zhejiang’s Wu Yuzhe placed third in 2:32.76. <\/p>\n
The Chinese Navy women’s 400-meter freestyle relay kept Zhejiang from a relay sweep with a 3:44.51 to win the finale. Jiangsu (3:44.90) and Beijing (3:45.28) finished second and third. Zhejiang had won every other relay so far this week. <\/p>\n
As far as world-record holder Ye Shiwen, she took 10th in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke to miss finals. She came into the meet swimming nothing but off events, and hasn’t been able to come up with much for her efforts outside of meeting her obligations as a national darling to appear at the National Championships. <\/p>\n
