SPRINGFIELD, Missouri, October 25. THE Missouri State women’s and men’s swimming and diving teams got the better of their cross-town rivals Friday night, easily topping Drury in both dual meets for the sweep. <\/p>\n

The Missouri State men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams topped crosstown-rival Drury in dual meet action Friday at the Hammons Student Center, with the men winning, 147-96, and women taking a 146-91 victory.<\/p>\n
The sweep marked the first time the Bears had done so against the Panthers since Oct. 28, 2011 at Hammons. The men’s team improved to 13-14 all-time versus DU while the women won for the fourth time in 15 tries.<\/p>\n
The Bears set three pool records on the day, including two by junior Paul Le in the 400-yard medley relay (48.13 in the 100 backstroke leg) and 200 backstroke (1:46.22) and one by junior Garrett Nevels in 1-meter diving (357.625).<\/p>\n
Missouri State claimed 17 of the 26 events contested in the meet and had 1-2 finishes in the women’s 400 medley relay in 3:54.46, men’s 1,000 free with Miguel Davila and Jared Roberts finishing in 9:24.81 and 9:39.73, respectively. Also going 1-2 for MSU were Le and Yuri Garanito (1:52.90) in the 200 back, Dora Kiss (5:03.66) and Heather Snyder (510.30) in the women’s 500 free, Davila (4:36.74) and Naresh Naik (4:38.81).<\/p>\n
Kiss (2:05.78), Rebecca Amparano (2:08.45) and Ibby Simcox (2:09.25) took first second and third place, respectively, in the 200 butterfly. <\/p>\n
In all, the Bears got individual event wins from 11 different swimmers, three from Kiss and two each from Le, Nevels and Davila.<\/p>\n
Missouri State returns to the pool for a pair of home meets next Friday and Saturday. The Bears host Evansville Friday at 4:30 p.m., followed by Southern Illinois Saturday at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n

An illness-weakened Gretchen Stein’s victory in the 200 IM highlighted Drury’s efforts in a dual meet loss to NCAA Division I Missouri State on Friday night at the Bears’ Hammons Student Center Pool.<\/p>\n
Missouri State won the men’s competition by a 147-96 count, while the Bears took the women’s meet by a 146-91 score. Drury, the nine-time defending NCAA-II national champion, now leads the all-time series with the MSU men 14-13 and still maintains an 11-4 edge in the women’s competition heading into the January 23rd “Duel In The Pool” rematch with the Bears at DU’s Breech Pool.<\/p>\n
The word all day Friday was that Stein, battling illness, wasn’t going to be able to swim that evening. But Stein fought through it and won the 200 IM in 2:07.30 for nearly a three-second victory over MSU senior Renata Sander. <\/p>\n
Other highlights for the DU women, who’ve won four of the past five NCAA-II national championships, were a victory in the 100 Free (53.09) by Wai Ting Yu and in the 200 Back by Yekaterina Rudenko (2:06.94), as well as by Rebekah Laupp in the 3-meter diving. Drury also won the 400 Free Relay with Leah Reed, Hilary Ottaviano, Kay Gieseke and Yu in 3:33.89.<\/p>\n
Victories for the DU men came in the 400 Medley Relay by Sean Feher, Kacper Pelczynski, Stanislav Kuzmin and Samuel Olson (in 3:22.26); by Olson in the 50 Free (20.97); by Pelczynski in the 200 Breast (2:04.61) and by the 400 Free Relay team of Nick McCarthy, Feher, Olson and Igor Kowal to close the night.<\/p>\n
