COLUMBUS, Ohio, October 26. EACH year, the NCAA Division I Ohio State Buckeyes and the NCAA Division III Kenyon Lords and Ladies do battle with Kenyon using the dual meet as a benchmark for where the D3 power’s season stands at this point of the season.<\/p>\n
Ohio State wound up putting up a strong showing with wins in the women’s (191-99) and men’s (186-101) meets.<\/p>\n
“I was very pleased with our freshmen,” Ohio State head coach Bill Wadley said. “Our upper classmen have done a very good job of allowing our freshmen to become an important part of our team. There’s still more in terms of teamwork that we want to accomplish, but really I think our guys are coming together pretty well.”<\/p>\n
Ohio State dominated the women’s meet topping nearly every event. Alex Norris won the 1000 free in 10:08.64 to kick off individual scoring. <\/p>\n
Phoebe Cater raced to victory in the 200 free with a 1:52.54 to 1:52.65 touchout ahead of teammate Annie Gillig. Gillig bounced back later in the meet with a 4:59.55 to win the 500 free. Cater doubled up in the 100 fly with a 56.55 to 56.61 ahead of Norris. <\/p>\n
Erin Dunseith hit the wall in 57.16 to win the 100 back. She returned in the 100 free with a 53.07 to double up individually. <\/p>\n
Rachael Dzierzak picked up a win in the 100 breast in 1:05.77, touching out Kenyon’s Katie Kaestner (1:05.84), while Lindsey Clary snatched the 200 fly crown in 2:05.60.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Michelle Williams topped the 50 free in 23.58, while Lauren Davis claimed the 200 back title in 2:04.63, with exhibitioning teammate Sarah Cruzan clocking a 2:04.73 for second. Also, Ashley Vance snared the 200 breast win in 2:21.78. <\/p>\n
In another close call, Aliena Schmidtke clipped teammate Kristyn Fulcher for the 200 IM win in 2:07.39. <\/p>\n
In diving, Taylor Ford tallied 297.53 points for the win in the one-meter. Ford returned in the three-meter for the sweep with 290.05 points. <\/p>\n
In relay action, OSU’s A team clocked a 3:31.63 as the top time in the 400 free relay to close the meet, albeit in exhibition fashion. The Buckeye women also opened the dual meet with a 1:44.88 to win the 200 medley relay. <\/p>\n
The Buckeye men also had an equally dominant meet with wins coming early and often, but had more swimmers pulling off doubles this evening than the Buckeye women. <\/p>\n
Ohio State’s Alex Miller topped the 1000 free in 9:17.39, and swept the distance freestyles with a 4:34.88 in the 500 free later in the night. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Matt McHugh hit the wall in 49.18 to win the 100 back, then doubled up with a 48.62 in the 100 fly. Additionally, DJ Macdonald raced to a 56.20 to win the 100 breast, then swept the stroke with a 2:04.20 to win the 200 breast. <\/p>\n
Josh Fleagle smoked the 50 free in 20.35 for the win, before doubling up after the diving break with a 44.38 in the 100 free. <\/p>\n
Steffen Hillmer posted a 1:39.78 to win the 200 free, while Tama Gercsak picked up a 1:51.53 to win the 200 fly. <\/p>\n
Steven Zimmerman turned in a 1:49.12 to win the 200 back, while Jovan Mitrovic clinched the 200 IM title in 1:53.35. <\/p>\n
Christian Holstein rolled in the one-meter diving event with 356.40 points, while teammate Stephen Ettienne won the three meter with 410.03 points. <\/p>\n
In relay action, Ohio State had the top swim in the 400 free relay with a 3:00.92 even though OSU exhibitioned the entire heat. The Buckeyes opened the meet with a 1:31.40 to win the 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
