FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, October 24. IN an interview with a local TV station, International Swimming Hall of Fame Executive Director Burce Wigo spoke more about the negotiations he had with the City of Fort Lauderdale that ultimately led to the decision that ISHOF will move from its 50-year home.<\/p>\n
Wigo told CBS4 reporter Carey Codd about some of the items ISHOF wanted from the City of Fort Lauderdale in order to stay in the space it has held since the 1960s. In addition to free rent and utilities, ISHOF asked for a $50,000 stipend to offset the cost of a private room that will be removed during the facility’s renovation. The private room, Wigo said, was a large portion of revenue as business rented the space for events.<\/p>\n
Wigo has long hoped to turn the facility — which includes two 50-meter competition pools and a diving well — into an entertainment destination that would appeal across all demographics. That’s the goal for the headquarters when it moves to a yet-to-be-determined location by 2015.<\/p>\n
Santa Clara and Oceanside, both in California, are two publicly-announced locations that have expressed interest in hosting the museum’s wares, and create a sports-related park around it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
