Smith moved up to third in the world rankings for 2019 and improved on her best time in the event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zane Grothe\u00a0<\/strong>won the men&#8217;s 800 free in a 7:55.78, just off his Des Moines time of 7:54. Grothe was second in the TYR Pro Swim Series standings in 2018 behind\u00a0<strong>Chase Kalisz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-puts-up-world-leading-800-free-to-open-tyr-pro-swim-series-in-richmond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/zane-grothe-battles-marcelo-acosta-for-800-free-win-to-open-tyr-pro-swim-series-in-richmond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Men&#8217;s 800 Free<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Swimming World&#8217;s\u00a0<\/em>chief photographer\u00a0<strong>Peter H.
