World record holder <b>Katie Ledecky <\/b>and Olympic medalist <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2019-tyr-pro-swim-series-richmond-ledecky-moves-to-1-in-800-free-smith-posts-lifetime-best-on-night-one\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">rattled the world rankings in the women&#8217;s 800 Freestyle<\/a> while\u00a0U.S. Open record holder <b>Zane Grothe <\/b>took the men&#8217;s race.<\/p>\n<p>Five individual races were held for both men and women on the first day of preliminaries. <strong>Michael Andrew<\/strong> and <strong>Claire Curzan<\/strong> highlighted the morning. Andrew set a new TYR Pro Swim Series Record in the 50 Backstroke (24.66) while Curzan set a new 13-14 National Age Group Record in the 100 Butterfly (59.00).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2019-tyr-pro-swim-series-richmond-psych-sheet-day-4-international-elite-2019-04-10.pdf\">PSYCH SHEET<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/docs\/default-source\/eventsdocuments\/guides\/2019-tyr-pro-swim-series\/tyr-pro-swim-series-at-richmond\/thursday-prelims.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">THURSDAY PRELIMS HEAT SHEET<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=0001130108ffffffffffffffffffffff&amp;day=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">LIVE RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s 200 Freestyle<\/h2>\n<p>As predicted, Katie Ledecky (1:57.08) and <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong> (1:58.15) cruised to the top seeds in the 200 Freestyle. Ledecky will look to build on her current worldwide third-ranked swim (1:55.78) in tonight&#8217;s final. Smith improved her season best by three tenths, moving up twenty-sixth to twenty-second in the world rankings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hali Flickinger<\/strong> led the remaining qualifiers in 1:59.26, about one second off her lifetime best. <strong>Madisyn Cox<\/strong> raced to a 1:59.84 and the fourth seed, her first time under two minutes since 2016. Stanford teammates <strong>Katie Drabot<\/strong> (1:59.98) and <strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong> (2:01.05) took fourth and fifth while swimming unattached. The swim was a season-best for Grothe who went 1:49.91 at the Des Moines TYR Pro Swim Series stop earlier in the year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zach Harting<\/strong> was also in the mix at 1:49.84, just one one hundredth off his lifetime best. <strong>Jack Conger<\/strong> was not far behind in 1:49.96. <strong>Mohamed Samy<\/strong> was fifth in 1:50.53. After a successful NCAA debut, <strong>Sophie Hansson<\/strong> nearly went a best time in the event, swimming a 1:07.82. She has gone two tenths faster at the European Championships. The swim is right on his season-best of 1:00.22 from Des Moines in March. Kevin Cordes put up a 1:01.20 for the second seed. He was followed by <strong>Nic Fink<\/strong> (1:01.27) and <strong>Andrew Wilson<\/strong> (1:01.31). The four should battle for honors in tonight&#8217;s final, as they are all within striking distance of the world&#8217;s top ten rankings.
