BATON ROUGE, Louisiana, October 19. A day after losing to powerhouse Georgia, the women’s swim team at Louisiana State were beaten by another Southeastern Conference foe, falling to Arkansas 180-120.<\/p>\n
Just as she did yesterday against Georgia, LSU’s Kara Kopcso won the 200 fly, taking the title today with a 2:01.00. It’s about two seconds slower than her winning time from yesterday, but good enough for a two-second win over teammate Sophie Weber. Kopcso stepped up for the 200 fly immediately after placing seventh in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n
Though LSU was not as impressive today as they were on Friday against Georgia, head coach Doug Shaffer had a positive spin on the day.<\/p>\n
“A positive is that we were able to come back after an emotional meet against Georgia,” he said. “The women did a good job of racing same times or even better times which is good to see. It’s nice to have that consistency with our performances. Form here, we have to look forward to conference and prepare for that.”<\/p>\n
Kopsco’s win was the only one in the swimming events for LSU today, though the Tigers put up strong second- and third-place finishes to stay in the hunt. Alex Bettridge and Cassie Weil helped out in diving, with Bettridge winning the 1-meter with 297.68 points and Weil victorious on 3-meter with 349.13 points. Both qualified for the NCAA Zone diving meet in March.<\/p>\n
Nikki Daniels, the fourth-place finisher in the 100 breast at the NCAA championships for Arkansas, was a double winner today. She won the 100 breast in 1:02.04 and the 200 with a 2:14.88. Daniels was just as fast this time last year, signaling that she’s on pace to repeat or improve on her NCAA performance in March 2014.<\/p>\n
Other double winners for Arkansas include Nicole Menzel (1000 free, 10:14.14; 500 free, 4:56.82), Nina Drolc (50 free, 23.20; 100 free, 50.28), Anna Mayfield (100 back, 55.44; 200 back, 1:59.80) and Susannah White (100 fly, 54.77; 200 IM, 2:01.64).<\/p>\n
