SAN ANTONIO, Texas, October 17. THE University of the Incarnate Word men’s swimming team started the first of its four seasons transitioning from the NCAA’s Division II to Division I with a dual meet against Texas A&M. In an interview on today’s Morning Swim Show, two Incarnate Word seniors described the Aggies as a very tough team, and they were, beating Incarnate Word 179-114.<\/p>\n
Incarnate Word has enjoyed many years of success in Division II, but this is their first season in Division I, and though the Cardinals lost the meet, they were able to post wins in four individual events and the 400 free relay, including one by former NCAA Division II record holder Thiago Parravicini.<\/p>\n
Parravicini, who was third in the 200 breast at the 2013 Division II championships and one of the two guests on today’s Morning Swim Show, won that event with a 2:04.91. That was the only event in which Incarnate Word was able to sweep the top three places, as Rostik Fedyna (2:05.76) and David Moore (2:10.34) were second and third.<\/p>\n
Andrii Nikishenko won the 200 backstroke with a 1:50.20 and Fedyna took the win in the 100 breast with a 56.65 over Parravicini’s 57.06 The other win for Incarnate Word came in the 400 IM, where Moore was victorious with a 4:01.93. Daniel Torres, the other guest on today’s edition of The Morning Swim Show, was second in the 400 IM with a 4:15.67.<\/p>\n
Omar Enriquez was Texas A&M’s busiest — and most successful — swimmer today, winning the 500 free (4:35.52), 1000 free (9:30.68) and 200 fly (1:53.51). He had to fight hard to win the 200 fly over teammate Hayden Duplechain, who led for 150 yards before Enriquez outsplit him by a full second in the final 50, 29.00 to 30.01. Duplechain touched in a time of 1:54.13.<\/p>\n
Texas A&M had two swimmers post double victories today. Henrik Lindau won the 100 backstroke with a 50.67 and the 100 free in 46.11, and Kyle Troskot beat the field in the 50 free with a 20.76 and 100 fly in 50.45.<\/p>\n
Texas A&M’s other victory individual events today came in the 200 free, courtesy of Mateo Muzek’s 1:40.92, just beating out teammate Paul Schweitzer’s 1:41.06.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
