RICHARD Burns and David Gildea provided some sparks to the Pacific Masters short course championships last weekend, setting two world marks.<\/p>\n<p>Burns, 70, is no stranger to world records, having set many of them in his Masters swimming career. He continued to add to his resume with another one in the 70-74 age group with a 1:13.76 in the 100 backstroke, erasing New Zealander Barry Young&#8217;s 1:14.31. The Tamalpais Masters standout already owns the world records in all three backstroke events in the long course format in this age group, and will likely chase the remaining two short course world records this season.<\/p>\n<p>David Gildea has the long course world record in the 100 breast for the 70-74 age group, and now he owns the short course world record thanks to a 1:22.28 posting in the 100 breast in California. His time beat out the 1:23.70 that Germany&#8217;s Han Reichelt swam in 2007.
