CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts, October 13. THE University of New Hampshire women’s swimming and diving squad dominated their season-opening meet yesterday, winning every event in their dual meet at Boston College.<\/p>\n

The University of New Hampshire women’s swimming & diving team won its season opener, defeating Boston College 217-140 at the William J. Flynn Recreation Complex Saturday afternoon. <\/p>\n
UNH won every event in the meet and captured the top three spots in eight events.<\/p>\n
Senior Jenni Roberts (Springvale, Maine) highlighted the Wildcats, placing first in the 100-yard backstroke (57.68), 100-yard butterfly (56.72) and the 200-yard inter medley (2:05.44). Sophomore Bettina Caspersen (Lyngby, Germany) ranked first in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard breaststroke, clocking in at 1:08.64 and 2:24.78 respectively.<\/p>\n
In the opening event, the Wildcats were victorious in the 200-yard medley relay. The quartet of Oneida Cooper (Johannesburg, South Africa), Caspersen, Adria Morales (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and Sarah Broderick (Haverhill, Mass.) compiled a time of 1:50.57, claiming 11 points.<\/p>\n
Junior Allison Morales (Santa Clarita, Calif.) paced the 1,000-yard freestyle as the Wildcats were featured in the top three spots. Morales touched the wall at 10:38.00 while Katie Keefer (Waynesboro, Va.) and Lauren Marsden (Washington, D.C.) earned times of 10:44.78 and 10:51.35 respectively.<\/p>\n
UNH continued their winning ways, seizing first in the opening eight events, leading 96-24.<\/p>\n
On the boards, Kyle Bonus (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Nicole Zahka (Medway, Mass.) placed third and fourth, compiling scores of 200.47 and 189.60 in the one-meter dive.<\/p>\n
Katie Mann (Prince George, British Columbia) brought another first-place tally in the 200-yard backstroke, registering a time of 2:08.00, giving New Hampshire a 148-49 advantage.<\/p>\n
In the 100-yard butterfly, Roberts and Lauren McCandless (Macungie, Pa.) claimed the top two spots, clocking in sub-minute times of 56.72 and 58.69 respectively.<\/p>\n
Leading 169-56, Zahka and Bonus returned to the boards to compete in the three-meter dive. Zahka earned a runner-up score of 203.02 while Bonus registered a score of 186.62, good for fifth place. <\/p>\n
UNH concluded the event, placing in the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley and earning first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The triad of Roberts, Jenna Bull (Woodstock, New Brunswick) and Mann recorded times of 2:05.04, 206.02 and 2:07.84 respectively. The team of Broderick, Roberts, Emily Magnavita (South Glastonburg, Conn.) and Megan Suffel (Cornwall, Ontario) compiled a time of 1:39.93 in the relay event. <\/p>\n
