(Toronto, CAN)- Day two of the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials are underway at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Fast times were posted in prelims by Ruck, Smith and Overholt. Nikola Miljenic and Tess Cieplucha surprised the crowd with key drops off their seed times and placing.<\/p>\n

Touching first well ahead of the competition was Aureli Rivard<\/strong> of UL in a time of 1:01.01, behind her Arianna Hunsicker<\/strong> of SKSC hit in a time of 1:06.47, and third was Samantha Ryan<\/strong> in 1:07.68. Rounding up the top eight were Sabrina Duchesne<\/strong> (1:18.14) fourth, Katarina Roxon<\/strong> (1:10.14) fifth, Shelby Newkirk<\/strong> (1:18.84) sixth, Gabby Baird<\/strong> (1:13.99) seventh, and and Krystal Shaw<\/strong> (1:27.35) eighth.<\/p>\n

Hitting first in prelims in a time of 55.25 was Alexander Elliot<\/strong> of UL, in second was Matthew Cabraja<\/strong> in 1:04.70, Zach Zona<\/strong> of NHAC was third in 1:05.04. Also making their way in the top eight was Caleb Arndt<\/strong> (1:02.49)\u00a0in fourth, Hicham Boufekane<\/strong> (1:11.36) fifth, Aidan Elliot<\/strong> (1:05.34) sixth, Matt Miller<\/strong> (1:09.04) seventh, and Tristan-Alexandre Pruneau-Tourny<\/strong> (1:17.13) eighth.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Free<\/h2>\n

It was a close race with the top four all breaking :55. First was SCAR’s Taylor Ruck<\/strong> in a time of 54.41, right behind in second was Penelope Oleksiak<\/strong> of TSC at 54.57, and third was Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> from AAC in 54.80. Taking fourth was Rebecca Smith<\/strong> (54.91), Louis Hansson<\/strong> (55.17) fifth, Alyson Ackman<\/strong> (55.27) sixth, Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> (55.31) seventh, and Margaret MacNeil<\/strong> eighth (55.38).<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Free<\/h2>\n

Yuri Kisil<\/strong> of WD took the men’s 100 free, the only to break :49 in the time of 48.95. In second was Dylan Carter<\/strong> of UNAT in 49.39, and third was Mark Thormeyer<\/strong> in 49.48. It was a close race for fourth with Carson Olafson<\/strong> (49.94) out touching Owen Daly<\/strong> (49.98). Dropping from his sixteenth seed to sixth was Nikola Miljenic<\/strong> of UNAT (50.07), in seventh Joshua Liendo<\/strong> (50.12), and eighth Javier Acevedo<\/strong> (50.24).<\/p>\n

Touching first and the only in the field to break 1:08 was SCAR’s Kierra Smith<\/strong> at 1:07.14. Faith Knelson <\/strong>of ISC hit the wall in 1:08.26 just ahead of UMAN’s Kelsey Wog<\/strong> 1:08.32. Rachel Nicol<\/strong> touched fourth the last to break the 1:09 barrier in a time of 1:08.85. Fifth was Kina Kucheran<\/strong> (1:09.45), sixth was Sophie Angus<\/strong> (1:09.45), seventh Avery Wiseman<\/strong> (1:10.09), and eighth Bailey Herbert<\/strong> (1:10.45).<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Breast<\/h2>\n

Gabe Mastromatteo<\/strong> of KSS just out touched TSC’s Richard Funk <\/strong>in 1:01.45 to Funk’s 1:01.47. Third was Connor Isings<\/strong> of PCSC in 1:02.10. Fourth was Alexander Milanovich\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.20), fifth James Dergousoff\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.34), sixth James Guest<\/strong> (1:02.67), seventh was Eli Wall<\/strong> and eighth Jaren LeFranc<\/strong> (1:03.48).<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/h2>\n

Fast finishes made up the top three spots, all hitting FINA 2019 A cut times. Emily Overholt\u00a0<\/strong>of UBCSC touched first in 4:41.04, Sydney Pickrem<\/strong> of UNCAN was second in 4:41.50 and Tess Cieplucha<\/strong> of OAK dropped over 10 seconds off her seed time for third in 4:42.32. Fourth was top seed Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson<\/strong> (4:45.06), fifth Mary-Sophie Harvey<\/strong> (4:46.52), sixth Bailey Andison<\/strong> (4:47.48), seventh Kathrin Demler<\/strong> (4:50.12), and eighth Summer McIntosh<\/strong> (4:51.23).<\/p>\n

Men’s 400 IM<\/h2>\n

Claiming the first seed going into finals is Tristan Cote<\/strong> of UCSC in a time of 4:21.41, Josh Zakala <\/strong>of ISC was second in 4:22.14 and Cole Pratt<\/strong> of CASC dropped 10 spots and almost 10 seconds in his time of 4:22.41. Fourth was Collyn Gagne<\/strong> (4:23.75), fifth Montana Champagne<\/strong> (4:24.14), sixth Brian Palaschuk<\/strong> (4:24.14), seventh Etienne Paquin-Foisy<\/strong> (4:25.04), and eighth Brodie Young<\/strong> (4:25.75).<\/p>\n

Danielle Hanus<\/strong> of ISC touched first in 28.30 ahead of Emma Ball<\/strong> of GMAC’s 28.36. Third was Jade Hannah <\/strong>also of ISC in 28.52. Ingrid Wilm<\/strong> was fourth (28.70), Madison Broad<\/strong> fifth (28.92), sixth Daphne Danyluk, Emma Terebo <\/strong>seventh, and\u00a0Kristina Steins <\/strong>eighth (29.25).<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Back<\/h2>\n

The top three men hit first all breaking :26 barrier. In first was Tim Zeng\u00a0<\/strong>of CHENA in 25.68 ahead of UNVAR’s Javier<\/strong> Acevedo<\/strong> 25.84, and Cole Pratt<\/strong> of CASC finished third in 25.87. Fourth was Brandon Dyck<\/strong> (26.14), fifth Colin McDermott<\/strong> (26.21), sixth Guillermo Cruz Zuniga<\/strong> (26.25), seventh Sebastian Somerset<\/strong> (CASC), and eighth Kyle Robrock<\/strong> (26.43).<\/p>\n
