Paola Dominguez-Castro<\/strong>, a high school junior living in Hialeah, Fla.\u2014and considered one of the most impressive young water polo talents in the country\u2014has the opportunity to break free of the environment that has both sustained and developed that talent, and become an example for others who might aspire to greater success.<\/p>\n

Superlatives come easily when talking about Paola\u2019s skills, but Coach Alex Donis<\/strong> paid his star player the ultimate compliment.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like having a coach in the water,\u201d he wrote in an email. \u201cShe sees things that I don\u2019t. She helps make adjustments to the offense or defense.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paola herself understands how to prepare for game situations, which she described last July in Clearwater, Fla., where she was playing for the U.S. Women\u2019s Youth National Team in the UANA Cup.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf I see that the goalie\u2019s struggling to get up on their legs, I just wait, fake until they\u2019re down, then shoot,\u201d she said, then added, \u201cI picture the play in my head before I do something\u2014then I just do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

There\u2019s little question that working with and being nurtured by ex-Olympians\u2014both father Nelson<\/strong> and uncle Oriel<\/strong> live in Hialeah\u2014has helped develop Paola\u2019s natural ability.<\/p>\n
