Newkirk was a 1:19.99 this morning, and was just a half-second off that mark tonight with a 1:20.49 that was good for 1035 para points. That improved her #1 ranked time in the world that unseated\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong>, was had the previous fastest time for 2019 with a 59.05 in Marseilles. That is just .06 off of Masse&#8217;s Canadian record from 2017 Worlds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Baker now sits at #3 in 2019, as <strong>Taylor Ruck\u00a0<\/strong>powered to a strong second place swim of 58.55 to move to #2 in the world. That improves Ruck&#8217;s previous best by about half a second. The duo will definitely be two to watch heading into World Championships this summer, as they give Canada the only two swimmers under 59 seconds in this event so far this year. That moves him up to fourth in the world for 2019, and will be good to qualify him for the World Championships this summer. In second was\u00a0<strong>Cole Pratt\u00a0<\/strong>(54.64), which falls just short of the A standard needed to qualify for Worlds. Smith was the second seed after prelims with a 2:26.16.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Sydney Pickrem <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kelsey Wog\u00a0<\/strong>were neck and neck behind Smith, and ended up as the top two finishers after Smith&#8217;s DQ. The two were within two-tenths of one another to both drop significantly from this morning. Pickrem ended up taking gold in 2:22.63, while Wog was second in 2:22.82. Those are the #1 and #2 ranked times in the world for this year, knocking off American <strong>Annie Lazor\u00a0<\/strong>who previously held the #1 spot with a 2:22.99.<\/p>\n<p>Both of those times are well under the FINA A standard, giving them both spots on Canada&#8217;s World Championship roster. That was still short of Olympic gold medalist <strong>Penny Oleksiak&#8217;s\u00a0<\/strong>time from prelims (26.08).
