GRANVILLE, Ohio, October 12. NCAA Division III powerhouse Denison split a pair of home meets today in Granville. The men took down Wabash in a 198-156 victory, while the women fell to DI foe Toledo, 264-150. The meet not only featured some standard NCAA swims, but also had the 50s and the 100 IM for added fun. Not only that, but quite a few pool records fell as well.<\/p>\n
Men
\nDenison’s Andrew Rich took down his pool and school mark in the men’s 50-yard fly with a 23.26. That swim beat his 23.41 from a year ago. Sean Chabot followed with a school and pool record in the 50 back. He clocked a 24.46, which downed Quinn Bartlett’s school record of 25.36, and also downed Jake Childress’ pool record of 25.09 for Wabash. <\/p>\n
Al Nennig crushed the Denison pool and school record in the 50 breast with a 27.08. Previously, Ben Snader owned the standard with a 27.73 from last year. Denison’s Jack Lindell raced to a 53.80 in the 100 IM to clip the pool and school mark of 53.83. <\/p>\n
Denison’s Ryan Fleming earned the 50 free crown in 21.41, while teammate Cam Young topped the men’s 200 free in 1:46.92. Andrew Rich then topped the 100 fly in 52.37 as Denison kept on a roll. Sean Chabot doubled with a 52.31 in the 100 back, while Nennig took his second win of the day with a 59.23 in the 100 breast. Spencer Fronk then posted a 46.62 to win the 100 free. <\/p>\n
Lindell claimed a double of his own with a 1:57.37 in the 200 IM before Young doubled as well with a 4:54.04 in the 400 free. Sam Strosnider got into the win column with a 1:58.31 in the 200 fly. <\/p>\n
With Denison exhibitioning the rest of the way, Chabot topped another event with a 1:55.54 in the 200 back. Conrad Wuorinen then led the 200 free in 1:45.94. Lindell kept the momentum going for Denison with a 4:11.99 in the 400 IM. Nathan Thorne then captured the 1000 free in 10:06.73. <\/p>\n
Wabash’s Zechariah Banks earned his squad’s first clean win with a 2:12.28 in the 200 breast, beating even an exhibitioning Snader (2:15.31) of Denison. <\/p>\n
Women
\nToledo’s Beth Rogers claimed the 50 fly in 26.09, while teammate Christina Noens popped a 27.32 to win the 50 back. Toledo kept up the steam in the sprints with a 30.97 in the 50 breast from Meredith Gibbon for the win. Rachel Johnson then clinched the 100 IM title in 59.19. <\/p>\n
In the first standard event for the women, Denison’s Carolyn Kane topped the women’s 50-yard free in 24.04. Campbell Costley then clocked a 1:54.48 to win the women’s 200 free for Denison as well.<\/p>\n
Rogers claimed her second win of the meet with a 57.95 in the 100 fly for Toledo, while Noens also doubled up with a 58.46 in the 100 back. Toledo’s Samantha Richart then surged to a 1:07.19 to win the 100 breast. <\/p>\n
Kane countered Toledo with a second win as she raced to a 52.44 in the 100 free for Denison, before Toledo’s Johnson replied with a 2:08.02 to break the 200 IM pool record of 2:08.62 set by Sydney Lofquist in January of this year. <\/p>\n
Costley raced to another triumph for Denison, this time setting the pool record in the 500 free with a 5:05.67. That downed the 5:07.14 set by Laurin Williams in January. <\/p>\n
Rogers became the first person with a title trifecta when she hit the wall in 2:08.32 in the women’s 200 fly, before Maria Bargardi won the 200 back in 2:05.07. Gibbon then returned after her 50 breast win with a 2:27.00 to win the 200 breast. <\/p>\n
Kane tracked down her third title for Denison on the day with a 1:56.90 in the 200 free before Toledo’s Rachel Johnson turned in a 4:32.65 to win the 400 IM.
