NEW COMMIT:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Georgia has received a new in-state commitment for the fall of 2020 from Dacula, Ga. standout\u00a0Jake Magahey<\/strong>. He announced via Instagram on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He will join NAG record-holder\u00a0Gianluca Urlando<\/strong><\/a> in Athens as a member of the class of 2024. Magahey recently made waves by breaking the oldest National High School SCY record<\/a> in the books.<\/p>\n

Incredibly versatile, Magahey does his club swimming with Swim Atlanta and owns the Winter Juniors (or faster) standards across 12 different events – including four U.S. Open cuts. He most recently competed at the Southern Premier Invitational where he achieved 100% lifetime bests after winning the 500\/1650 combo at Juniors East in December. He concluded his breakout long course season with two golds in the 400m\/800m free at Junior Nationals after placing 13th and 16th, respectively, in those events at\u00a0Phillips 66 Nationals this past summer.<\/p>\n

A current member of the National Junior Team, Magahey represented Team USA at the Junior Pan-Pac Championships last year and earned gold in the 4x200m free relay, silver in the 200m free and bronze in the 800m free.\u00a0Also competing for Mill Creek High School, Magahey has won the 200\/500 double the last two seasons at the Georgia 6A\/7A State Championships. He has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.<\/p>\n

Regarding his commitment, he said:<\/p>\n

“I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Georgia! I would like to thank my parents, family, coaches, teammates, and friends, along with everybody who\u2019s been a part of my life along this awesome journey. GO DAWGS!”<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
