EARLIER this week, the NCAA announced that it is moving forward with legislation change regarding recruit communications if it is approved in January by the NCAA Division I Legislative Council.  <\/p>\n<p>The suite of proposals would &#8220;lift restrictions in all sports on the frequency and modes of communication (e.g. text messaging),&#8221; and would &#8220;allow recruiting communication to start Sept. 1 of a recruit&#8217;s junior year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The last provision, however, would have some exclusions.  The sports of basketball, football, men&#8217;s ice hockey, swimming and diving, cross country and track and field will have their own set of rules.  Basketball, football and men&#8217;s ice hockey are already considering their own set of rules, and are excluded from the change.  <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the larger roster sports like swimming and diving, cross country and track and field, where opening communication to juniors would overload an already overworked coaching staff, fought off the change.
