IAN Silverman, who trains with the North Baltimore Aquatic Club and is a Paralympic American record holder, has chosen to attend the University of Southern California and train with head coach Dave Salo.<\/p>\n<p>Silverman made his commitment known emphatically on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p>Committed to University of Southern California! #FIGHTON!!!&amp;mdash; Ian Jaryd Silverman (@Jewbickscube) October 9, 2013<\/p>\n<p>Silverman, the top ranked recruit out of Maryland by CollegeSwimming.com, had an amazing performance at the 2012 Paralympic Games.  He won gold in the 400 free, and took sixth in the 50 free, seventh in the 200 IM and 100 free and eighth in the 100 fly.  He also is the Paralympic American record holder in the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 freestyles as well as the 50 and 100 fly.  <\/p>\n<p>Silverman swims in the S10, SB9 and SM9 classifications in Paralympic competition.  He was born with a mild cerebral palsy, but has not let that detract from his dreams one bit.  <\/p>\n<p>Silverman will provide USC with another cog in a strong distance freestyle group.  He clocked a 15:29.11 in the 1650-yard free at the 2013 Maryland Swimming Championships, and also has a 15:58.56 in the 1500-meter free from the 2013 Speedo Junior Nationals.  <\/p>\n<p>Silverman also has some middle-distance speed with a 4:30.28 in the 500-yard free and a 4:03.23 in the 400-meter freestyle events.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALTIMORE, Maryland October 9.
