Farris swam a time of 40.80, making him the third-fastest performer in history, and just fast enough to hold off Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bowen Becker<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Farris explained what it meant to him to see Harvard finish eighth in the team race and what it meant to put up such a strong performance with two individual titles. Farris held off a hard charge from Minnesota senior\u00a0<strong>Bowen Becker\u00a0<\/strong>(40.83) who gave Farris everything he could handle the final 25.<\/p>\n<p>Farris moved up to third all-time in the 100 free as Becker moved up to fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana senior\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple\u00a0<\/strong>(41.45) placed third for the Hoosiers as he was just off his best time of 41.36 from 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The youngest in the final was freshman\u00a0<strong>Daniel Krueger\u00a0<\/strong>(41.56), who placed fourth for the Longhorns. Texas is 53 points out of first place as they are scratching for everything they can get to win a fifth straight team title in their home pool.<\/p>\n<p>Cal picked up points from\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(41.82) and\u00a0<strong>Pawel Sendyk\u00a0<\/strong>(42.06) in sixth and eighth.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Robert Howard\u00a0<\/strong>(41.75) and NC State\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>(42.00) also swam in the A-Final.<\/p>\n<p>Harvard now has three NCAA titles in the 100 free as Farris joins the likes of\u00a0<strong>Charles Hutter\u00a0<\/strong>(1936) and\u00a0<strong>Henry Dyer\u00a0<\/strong>(1957) as winners of the event for the Crimson.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dean Farris wrapped up a breakout week at the men&#8217;s NCAA championships Saturday night with his second individual title, this one in the 100 free.
