Stanford senior\u00a0Abrahm DeVine\u00a0<\/strong>won his second straight 400 IM title<\/a> on Friday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas. DeVine swam a 3:36.41, which was slower than what he won with in 2018, but he was still satisfied with the win.<\/p>\n

DeVine said it wasn’t the exclamation point he was looking for to close out his college career but said it was “a hard period.” DeVine also talked about his friendship with fellow Stanford IM’er\u00a0Ella Eastin<\/strong>, who won four NCAA titles<\/a> in the 400 IM over her career.<\/p>\n

DeVine talked about how he and Eastin have dominated the 400 IM scene in NCAA swimming and how he was able to win it this year as a senior. Stanford has had a tough year this year with\u00a0Grant Shoults<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Jack LeVant<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>having to pull out of the meet for injuries. Both Shoults and LeVant were selected for the World Championships team later this summer along with DeVine.<\/p>\n

DeVine alluded to how hard it has been on the whole team with all of those injuries going on this season.<\/p>\n

DeVine led a Pac-12 1-2-3 at the top with Cal\u2019s\u00a0Sean Grieshop\u00a0<\/strong>(3:37.03) and\u00a0Mike Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>(3:37.52) sitting in second and third. Grieshop moved up to 11th all-time with his swim.<\/p>\n

DeVine was one of four seniors in the field as the 2020 title looks wide open for next season. Virginia\u2019s\u00a0Brendan Casey\u00a0<\/strong>(3:38.43) placed fourth.<\/p>\n

Stanford now has seven NCAA titles in the 400 IM. DeVine joins the likes of\u00a0Dick Roth\u00a0<\/strong>(1967),\u00a0Jeff Kostoff\u00a0<\/strong>(1985, 87),\u00a0Tom Wilkens\u00a0<\/strong>(1997, 98) and himself (2018) as winners of the event for the Cardinal.<\/p>\n
