Stewart also analyzed mistakes he made that he thinks cost him in the 100 fly, specifically breaking out too early and finishing too low on the wall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NdwNbpW8wGw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Recap of 100 Fly:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Indiana senior\u00a0<strong>Vini Lanza<\/strong>, fresh off swimming the butterfly leg on Indiana\u2019s 400 medley relay title, won the 100 fly on Friday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin, Texas. Lanza swam a 44.37 to hold off a strong last turn from NC State junior\u00a0<strong>Coleman Stewart<\/strong>. Lanza won Indiana\u2019s first 100 fly NCAA title since\u00a0<strong>Mark Spitz\u00a0<\/strong>won four straight (1969-72).<\/p>\n<p>The race played out between Lanza and Stewart at the finish for first and second but Michigan\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Miles Smachlo\u00a0<\/strong>ran down everyone in the field to sneak in for third place from lane eight. Smachlo was a 23.78 on the final 50 and finished at 44.84.<\/p>\n<p>Florida\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Maxime Rooney\u00a0<\/strong>placed fourth for the Gators at 44.99.<\/p>\n<p>Lanza moved up to sixth all-time with his swim while Stewart moved up to seventh.<\/p>\n<p>Georgia\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Camden Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>(45.03), Cal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Zheng Quah\u00a0<\/strong>(45.06), Cal\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(45.14) and Arizona\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Chatham Dobbs\u00a0<\/strong>(45.39) also swam in the A-Final.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana now has seven NCAA titles in the 100 fly, but their first in almost 50 years. Lanza joins\u00a0<strong>Mike Troy\u00a0<\/strong>(1960),\u00a0<strong>Fred Schmidt\u00a0<\/strong>(1965) and Spitz (1969-72) as winners of the event for the Hoosiers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Recap of 100 Back:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Harvard junior\u00a0<strong>Dean Farris\u00a0<\/strong>blistered the 100 back final on Friday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships with a 43.66 to scare\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>43.49 NCAA and American Record from 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Farris went out in a 20.85 and held on to win Harvard\u2019s first NCAA title in 30 years. NC State\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Coleman Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>(43.98) finished in second in the race as Farris and Stewart became the second and third swimmers to break 44 seconds in the event.<\/p>\n<p>Farris is the first Harvard man to win an individual NCAA title in swimming and diving since\u00a0<strong>David Berkoff\u00a0<\/strong>won the 100 back in 1989.<\/p>\n<p>Grand Canyon\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Mark Nikolaev\u00a0<\/strong>(44.33) had the highest finish for a Grand Canyon swimmers with his swim tonight. Nikolaev moved to fifth all-time.<\/p>\n<p>Texas\u2019\u00a0<strong>John Shebat\u00a0<\/strong>(44.71), who was second the last two years, placed fourth for the Longhorns.
