As for the team race, Cal virtually put away a national championship.<\/p>\n<p>Cal currently holds a 43-point lead in the team race, with four-time defending champion Texas, Indiana, NC State and Louisville rounding out the top five. The Golden Bears should only extend their lead in the finals after placing two swimmers in each of the four individual A-finals on the final day. No other team had more than three A-finalists. Read below for an event-by-event recap of the session.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-mens-ncaa-swimming-championships-day-four-prelims-day-4\/ncaa-college\/2019\/March\/27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Full results<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>200 Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The Texas duo of\u00a0<strong>Austin Katz\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>John Shebat\u00a0<\/strong>picked up the top two seeds in the men&#8217;s 200 back, with defending champion Katz touching in 1:37.72 and Shebat taking second in 1:37.97. Farris put up a time of 41.00, well ahead of second seed\u00a0<strong>Bowe Becker\u00a0<\/strong>of Minnesota (41.44). Third went to Texas&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Daniel Krueger\u00a0<\/strong>in 41.49, followed by Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple\u00a0<\/strong>(41.59) and Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Howard\u00a0<\/strong>(41.69).<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>took sixth in 41.74, and Cal swimmers\u00a0<strong>Pawel Sendyk\u00a0<\/strong>and <strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>tied for seventh in 41.76. Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>will go for his third national title of the meet after qualifying first in prelims at 1:51.19. But just five hundredths behind was Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong>, who held off Seliskar on the last 50 to win last year&#8217;s NCAA title.<\/p>\n<p>A pair of impressive freshman were the next two qualifiers, with Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Max McHugh\u00a0<\/strong>finishing just behind Finnerty in their heat at 1:51.36, and Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong>, who won heat five in 1:51.59. Georgia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Caio Pumputis\u00a0<\/strong>took fifth in 1:52.40.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paul DeLakis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.56), Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Walker<\/strong> (1:52.58) and Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Guest\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.75). The foursome of\u00a0<strong>Michael Jensen\u00a0<\/strong>(42.50),\u00a0<strong>Pawel Sendyk\u00a0<\/strong>(42.34),\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(42.16) and\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>(41.38) combined to swim a time of 2:48.38.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Bruno Blaskovic<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Mohamed Samy\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Jack Franzman\u00a0<\/strong>qualified second in 2:48.67, and Texas won heat three to qualify third in 2:49.07 with\u00a0<strong>Drew Kibler<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jake Sannem<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Matthew Willenbring\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Krueger<\/strong>.
