FORT MYERS, Florida, October 6. FLORIDA Gulf Coast took it to in-state rival North Florida on Saturday morning, capturing a 143.5-94.5 triumph in the process. <\/p>\n
Lindsey Meeder took home titles in the 200-yard IM (2:12.38) and 100 free (54.21), while Lani Cabrera also doubled up for FGCU with triumphs in the 1000 free (10:40.56) and 500 free (5:12.39). Emma Svenson, the reigning CCSA Swimmer of the Year, only took part in relay duty, helping both the 200 medley relay (1:46.88) and 200 free relay (1:38.10) to victory. <\/p>\n
Kira Toussaint of The Netherlands, who is one of the Dutch swimmers currently being developed to slide into the ultra-scary Dutch freestyle relay, also helped both relays to victory. <\/p>\n
According to FGCU sports information, the Eagles have never lost to North Florida and currently riding a dual-meet unbeaten streak that spans back to more than 2,000 days.<\/p>\n
“We had a chance to mix up events a little bit for us which allowed some kids to be essentially a ‘starter’ and they stepped up for us. We’re a team right now with a lot of depth, which is a good thing, but it’s going to give me some selection headaches in the future,” head coach Neal Studd said.<\/p>\n
North Florida had some flashes of speed. Bridget Woods took second behind Meeder in the 200 IM with a 2:12.70, while Mariana Paula tied with FGCU’s Christina Tanninen for second in the 100 free with a 55.34. <\/p>\n
UNF also did extremely well on the diving boards. Monica Rice won the one-meter with 238.12 points. Fernanda Robles picked up a victory in the three-meter with 247.36 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
