﻿{"id":361383,"date":"2019-03-29T18:30:16","date_gmt":"2019-03-30T01:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=361383"},"modified":"2019-03-29T18:16:15","modified_gmt":"2019-03-30T01:16:15","slug":"361383-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/361383-2\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 Speedos Sectionals Christiansburg: Chuck Katis Throws Down 52.16 100 Breast On Day Two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the second night of the 2019 Eastern Zone Southern Region Sectional Meet kicked off tonight in Christiansburg, and NCAP has taken a commanding lead of the combined team scores, almost doubling the points of the Delaware Swim Team who currently sits in second. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Combined Team Scores:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NCAP &#8211; 505<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Delaware Swim Team (DST) &#8211; 263<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monocacy Aquatic Club (MAC) &#8211; 246<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enfinity Aquatic Club (EAC) &#8211; 226<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Machine Aquatics (MACH) &#8211; 200<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women 200 Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14-year old \u00a0<\/span><b>Camille Spink <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from NCAP won the opening event of the evening with a strong 1:48.86. That shaves a tenth off of her previous lifetime best from just a couple weeks ago. The top three girls in this race were all under 1:50, with Enfinity Aquatic Club\u2019s <\/span><b>Danielle Ghine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:49.10) and Machine Aquatics\u2019 <\/span><b>Jordan Buechler <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:49.51) joining Spink on the podium.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men 200 Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">24-year old <\/span><b>Lucas Bureau <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">opened the men\u2019s event with a win in the 200 free (1:36.62). Bureau was the only swimmer in the field under 1:39, running away with the race by almost 3 seconds. In second was Enfinity Aquatic Club\u2019s <\/span><b>Thomas Hamelt <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:39.56), followed by 19-year old <\/span><b>Graham Hertweck <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:39.94) who was swimming unattached.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women 100 Breast<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">757 Swimming\u2019s <\/span><b>Colby Hurt <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won her second event of the meet in the 100 breast (1:03.12) after winning the 1650 on the opening night of the meet. The 17-year old won a close race where the top 7 swimmers were all under 1:04. Hurt was joined on the podium by teammate <\/span><b>Jenna Thompson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:03.31) and 17-year old <\/span><b>Leah Baker <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:03.37). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They were followed closely by <\/span><b>Naomee Miller <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:03.60), <\/span><b>Rabea Pfaff <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(1:03.72), <\/span><b>Shelby Gerving<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:03.81) and <\/span><b>Catherine Hughes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1:03.84)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men 100 Breast<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">26-year old <\/span><b>Chuck Katis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blew away the rest of the field in the 100 breast, touching first by more than four seconds in 52.16. Katis is based out of <\/span><b>Sergio Lopez\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pro group at Virginia Tech. The only two other swimmers in the field under 57 seconds were <\/span><b>Jackson Schultz <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(56.26) and <\/span><b>Ryan Pirrung <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(56.71).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women 100 Fly<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">757 Swimming had a second straight women\u2019s event win, as 17-year old <\/span><b>Sofia Long <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(55.55) won the 100 fly in a tight race over Machine Aquatics\u2019 <\/span><b>Sarah Boyle <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(55.61). She was joined on the podium by <\/span><b>Ella Ogden <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(55.79), and followed by four more girls who were just under 56 seconds: <\/span><b>Katherine Bailer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (55.95), <\/span><b>Catherine Weaverling<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (55.97), <\/span><b>Danielle Ghine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (55.98), and <\/span><b>Meghan Cole<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (55.99). <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men 100 Fly<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enfinity Aquatic Club\u2019s <\/span><b>Preston Forst <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">came away with the win in the 100 fly, touching first in 47.40, That was the 17-year old\u2019s second win of the meet after leading off the victorious 800 free relay last night. Joining him under 48 seconds was teammate <\/span><b>Maxwell Edwards <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(47.83). Those two were well ahead of the rest of the field, with the next closest finisher being <\/span><b>Owen Blazer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(50.24).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women 100 Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">16-year old <\/span><b>Janika Perezous <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was dominant in the women\u2019s 100 back, winning in 53.94 to take the event by more than a second. Perezous was the only swimmer under 55 seconds in the event, with second place going to Sarah Boyle (55.06) from Machine Aquatics. That was a quick turn around for Boyle, who narrowly lost to Sofia Long in the 100 fly earlier in the meet. In third was Danielle Ghine (55.52), who was also just getting out the 100 back. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men 100 Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">18-year old <\/span><b>Thomas Hamlet <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from Enfinity Aquatics Club rebounded from his second place finish in the 200 free to grab the #1 spot in the 100 back, touching the wall in 48.13. He was just ahead of teammate <\/span><b>Maxwell Edwards <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(48.63) and 17-year old <\/span><b>Owen Blazer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(50.13), who had his second straight podium appearance tonight.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Women 500 Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">14-year old <\/span><b>Kira Agne <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(4:58.51) was the winner in the 500 free. Joining her under 5:00 was 18-year old <\/span><b>Emma Menzer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(4:58.84) from the Delaware Swim Team. In third was 757\u2019s <\/span><b>Kylie Johnson <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(5:02.45).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Men 500 Free<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><b>Preston Forst <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">had another impressive win tonight, touching first in the boys 500 free in 4:25.61 to take his second win of the night and third overall at this meet.
