ATHENS, Georgia, October 5. THE Georgia Bulldogs closed out the day with sweeps of the Wisconsin Badgers as part of a two-day head-to-head dual meet in Athens. The men topped Wisconsin, 179-139, while the women closed out a 182-136 victory. That’s 84 straight wins for the Ladies at home, a streak that dates back to 1995. <\/p>\n
While Chase Kalisz was the top performer on night one, his Duel in the Pool teammate Nic Fink took down a pair of wins this afternoon. Fink won the 100 free in 44.98 and the 100 breast in 56.16. Meanwhile, Kalisz collected his fourth individual title of the meet with a 3:48.39 in the 400-yard IM to clear the NCAA B cut. <\/p>\n
Amber McDermott also doubled up for the Lady Bulldogs in sizzling fashion. McDermott threw down a pair of NCAA B cuts, winning the 1650 free in 16:22.80 before coming back with a 4:17.70 to top the 400 IM as well. Teammate Annie Zhu also beat the B cut with a second-place 4:19.31. <\/p>\n
Plenty more of the Bulldogs also took home titles. Will Freeman claimed the 1650 free in 15:32.41, while Ty Stewart clocked a 49.46 for the 100 back crown. Doug Reynolds snatched the 200 fly win in 48.84. For the Ladies, reigning Swimming World High School Swimmer of the Year Olivia Smoliga topped the 100 back in 56.41. Emily Cameron (100 breast: 1:03.78) also earned an individual title. <\/p>\n
“Overall, I thought we had two pretty good days,” Georgia coach Jack Bauerle said. “Our kids have been training hard, and the results showed up this weekend. We’re getting better every day. We’ve just got to keep working hard and stay focused on what we’re doing.”<\/p>\n
The Badgers had some successes of their own on Saturday. Wisconsin’s Drew teDuits, Nick Schafer, Cannon Clifton and Brett Pinfold managed to top the 400-yard medley relay in 3:18.32, touching out UGA’s Ty Stewart, Nic Fink, Doug Reynolds and Jameson Hill (3:18.34). <\/p>\n
Ivy Martin continued to demonstrate her sprinter speed. A day after topping the 50 free with an NCAA B cut, she crushed the field in the 100 free with an NCAA B cut time of 49.09. She also won the 100 fly in 54.66. <\/p>\n
Wisconsin’s Aja Van Hout, Ivy Martin, Chase Kinney and Rebecka Palm also won the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:24.16.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
