Texas senior\u00a0Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>won the 500 free on Thursday night<\/a> at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in his home pool at the University of Texas. Haas won his third 500 title and broke the NCAA record in the process that belonged to former Longhorn great\u00a0Clark Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Haas went out for it in the final and talked about what his plan was going into that race. Haas was out 1:35 at the 200, two seconds ahead of NCAA record pace. Haas slowed down a bit and gave a comment over whether he could feel the field catching him on the last 100.<\/p>\n

Haas also said he was able to clear his mind behind the blocks for his race and that was how he was able to go so fast in the final.<\/p>\n

Haas will be in the 200 free final on Friday night for the matchup of the meet with Cal’s\u00a0Andrew Seliskar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
