STANFORD, California, October 3. STANFORD continued its strong start to the season with a 147-104 victory over Washington State with senior Felicia Lee and junior Maddy Schaefer both doubling up during dual meet competition.<\/p>\n
“I thought it was nice to have Washington State here,” Stanford head coach Greg Meehan said. “We’re excited about bringing them into the rotation and really appreciate that. It was good to get conference racing underway.”<\/p>\n
This year, the Pacific 12 is acting under a new rule requiring conference teams to face each other. Along with the California women venturing to Oregon State, Stanford hosted Washington State tonight in a meet that typically was not scheduled in the past. <\/p>\n
Lee continued the great start to her senior season with wins in the 50-yard free (23.55) and 200 free (1:49.82), while Schaefer topped the 100 back (55.13) and 100 free (50.33). Stanford went on to clinch the first 11 events before beginning to exhibition. <\/p>\n
Other victories came by way of Andie Taylor (1000 free: 9:57.89), Sarah Haase (100 breast: 1:03.97), Maya DiRado (200 back: 1:59.60), Katie Olsen (200 breast: 2:17.56).<\/p>\n
Emma Johansson led Washington State with the best swims for the Cougars. She won the 100-yard fly in 56.67, beating Stanford’s Jaynie Pulte to the wall (57.06) for the legit victory regardless of Stanford exhibitions.
