Texas seniors\u00a0Jeff Newkirk\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>swam the third and fourth legs of the NCAA and American Record setting 800 free relay for the University of Texas on Wednesday night at the 2019 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin. Newkirk swam a 1:31.91 while Haas was a 1:29.66 on the last two legs.<\/p>\n

Newkirk talked about what it meant to swim in front of all the alumni that came back to Austin to watch the team swim, and what their attitude was coming into tonight.<\/p>\n

Haas also talked about what it was like watching\u00a0Dean Farris<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>break his American Record in the previous heat with a 1:29.15, lowering Haas’s 1:29.50 from last season. Haas gave his thoughts on whether he was disappointed to see Farris was not in the 200 free individual event on Friday.<\/p>\n

Haas also talked his emotions he had swimming the first 100 as the anchor leg when he was out in a 42.39.<\/p>\n
