The team of <strong>Drew Kibler\u00a0<\/strong>(1:32.06),\u00a0<strong>Austin Katz\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.45),\u00a0<strong>Jeff Newkirk\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.91) and\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas\u00a0<\/strong>(1:29.66) swam the fastest time ever as they broke NC State&#8217;s 6:05.31 record from last season.<\/p>\n<p>Since moving the 800 free relay to Wednesday night in 2016, the NCAA record has been broken every year. The record in 2015 was a 6:09.85. That would have been sixth place in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The time is also a new American Record for Texas, breaking the Longhorns&#8217; 6:07.59 from last year.<\/p>\n<p>Texas&#8217; Haas had the fastest ever split on the anchor leg as no one had broken 1:30 from a relay start before.<\/p>\n<p>The Cal Golden Bears were off to an early lead with <strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>(1:30.14) leading off for a new best time as he is now the fourth fastest performer ever. The Golden Bears finished in second in the fastest seeded heat but were third after NC State swam a 6:06.63 in heat two.<\/p>\n<p>The Wolfpack, after winning the last two relays the last two years, was second with\u00a0<strong>Andreas Vazaios\u00a0<\/strong>(1:32.22),\u00a0<strong>Coleman Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>(1:30.61),\u00a0<strong>Jacob Molacek\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.91) and\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.89).<\/p>\n<p>Cal finished in third at 6:07.31 with Seliskar (1:30.14),\u00a0<strong>Bryce Mefford\u00a0<\/strong>(1:32.57),\u00a0<strong>Trenton Julian\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.74) and\u00a0<strong>Mike Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>(1:32.86). They held off a tough fight from Indiana, who finished in fourth at 6:07.35.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple\u00a0<\/strong>(1:30.34) led off the Hoosiers with a new best time and is now fifth all-time in the individual 200 free.<\/p>\n<p>Also in the race, Harvard junior\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/dean-farris-smashes-ncaa-american-record-in-200-free\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dean Farris<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(1:29.15) had the fastest time ever on the lead-off for Harvard&#8217;s heat two relay as the Crimson placed seventh. It is the first time Harvard has had an All-American relay in 21 years.<\/p>\n<p>Florida (6:09.14), Louisville (6:11.36), Harvard (6:11.73) and Virginia (6:12.28) also placed in the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Texas now has 14 NCAA titles in the 800 free relay.
