COLLEGE STATION, Texas, October 1. SHE took a bit longer than her Texas A&M teammates Sarah Henry and Cammile Adams to accept a roster invite, but breaststroke stalwart Breeja Larson is now a part of the Stars and Stripes for the Duel in the Pool.<\/p>\n
Larson, an Olympic gold medalist in the 400 medley relay and a world titlist in the same event from this last summer, provides Team USA one of the top breaststrokers in the world to content with what is likely going to be a loaded breaststroke contingent for the European All Stars.<\/p>\n
Larson, a late-bloomer in the sport having thrust herself onto the national scene with runner-up finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke as a walk-on freshman at Texas A&M before capturing the 100-yard NCAA title as a sophomore, can definitely do serious battle in short course competition that will be featured at the Duel in the Pool.<\/p>\n
The meet will take place Dec. 20-21 at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre, site of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Footage from the meet will be televised by NBC as part of a two-hour show on Sunday, Dec. 22. The show will air from 4-6 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
A full roster for each team will be made public in early November with Team USA shooting for a November 1 release date. <\/p>\n
Swimmers can compete in a maximum of six events (individual and relays), and each team may enter up to four swimmers per individual event and one relay. A running score will be kept combining the points earned by both women and men to determine the winning team.
