PHOENIX, Arizona, October 1. THE Florida Swimming Pools Association’s annual high school invitational is becoming one of the most anticipated competitions of the year. In 2012, the Bolles School broke two national high school relay records at that meet before their historic weekend at the Florida state meet about a month later. Caeleb Dressel was the star of the meet this year, breaking not one but two overall national high school records in the meet on Saturday. He started things off with a 19.36 in the 50 freestyle, breaking Vladimir Morozov’s record of 19.43 from 2010. As we know, Morozov has become one of the fastest swimmers in the world in those three years, not just at the NCAA level, but on the world stage as well, and Dressel appears to be on track with that.<\/p>\n
Next up was the 100 butterfly, and the senior from Clay High School put together an amazing 45.89 to drop almost two seconds from his lifetime best. The time broke the national high school record set just last November by Joe Schooling with a 46.50. Schooling and Dressel train together at Bolles for USA Swimming and likely pushed each other to new heights, as Schooling also got under his record in the same race.<\/p>\n
Dressel has been on a record-breaking tear in the past few months. We awarded him the Speedo Performance of the Week multiple times after breaking national age group records in long course meters, and now he’s making short work of the standards in short course yards. It only makes us more excited to see what will shape up for November’s state championships.<\/p>\n
