ANNAPOLIS, Maryland, October 1. THE Department of Defense has suspended all intercollegiate competitions at service academies due to the government shutdown in the United States. <\/p>\n
The Naval Academy was the first to confirm the situation, stating that the football game against Air Force that is set to be nationally televised by CBS could be postponed. Navy has already canceled tonight’s soccer contest against Howard.<\/p>\n
More information will be hard to come by on exactly what is happening for all the service academies, since government employees who are part of the shutdown are not allowed to engage in any work activities, including business correspondence. <\/p>\n
These are the swimming events that could be canceled or postponed depending on whether the government shutdown lasts throughout the month of October. <\/p>\n
Decisions on cancellations are being made on a daily basis, so be on the lookout. The two events likely to be cut, depending on what happens in Congress, are this weekend’s competitions involving Army and Navy. <\/p>\n
