Stanford freshman\u00a0Jack LeVant\u00a0<\/strong>announced over the weekend he was pulling out of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships this week in Austin, Texas. LeVant’s NCAA debut was going to be anticipated after his stellar summer in 2018, where he reached the final in the 200 free and 200 fly at the US Nationals in Irvine. LeVant qualified for the 2019 World Championships in the 4×200 free relay with his swims this summer.<\/p>\n

LeVant wrote on Instagram,<\/p>\n

“Hello all, Due to some unforeseen medical complications, I will not be competing at NCAA\u2019s this year. I love my Stanford family with my entire heart and soul, and I cannot thank you all enough for the support. Life is full of setbacks, and this is just one of those moments. Hopefully my recovery will be swift, and I will be back to representing Stanford again soon. Best of luck to everyone competing, and like always… Go Card!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

LeVant’s absence will be a huge blow to Stanford’s chances at a top ten finish after the Cardinal also lost junior\u00a0Grant Shoults<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>to an injury. Stanford was seeded to finish 19th in the meet off swimming points alone and the Cardinal will have 11 total swimmers at the meet. Stanford is now projected to finish 21st on the psych sheets (swimming only).<\/p>\n

LeVant was seeded 12th in the 500 (4:13.11), 7th in the 200 free (1:32.61), and 35th in the 200 fly (1:43.40) in what would have been his first NCAAs. LeVant’s scratch from the meet allows Louisville’s\u00a0Nikolaos Sofianidis\u00a0<\/strong>to be called up to the meet after being on the alternates list.<\/p>\n
