{"id":360225,"date":"2019-03-24T06:00:42","date_gmt":"2019-03-24T13:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=360225"},"modified":"2019-03-24T12:45:47","modified_gmt":"2019-03-24T19:45:47","slug":"katie-ledecky-counts-for-former-stanford-teammate-at-ncaa-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-counts-for-former-stanford-teammate-at-ncaa-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie Ledecky Counts for Former Stanford Teammate at NCAA Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What do you do if you are the best swimmer in the world and you are back watching your former team aim for an NCAA title?<\/p>\n<p>Be a counter for the mile of course.<\/p>\n<p>Former Stanford national champion <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong> was the official counter in the 1650 yard freestyle for her former college teammate <strong>Leah Stevens<\/strong> on Saturday at the 2019 NCAA Division I Women\u2019s Championships.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2019-ncaa-division-i-womens-championships-full-results\/ncaa-college\/2019\/March\/20?rtn=%2Fresults%2Fall%3Fpage%3D1%26orderBy%3DResult.MeetStartDateTime%26sortDirection%3D1%26q%3D\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ledecky<\/a> also handed out the awards in the event, in which she holds the American and NCAA record in 15:03.31, set in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Stevens finished fourth (15:47.31) behind Penn State\u2019s <strong>Ally McHugh<\/strong> (15:39.22), Ohio State\u2019s <strong>Molly Kowal<\/strong> (15:44.61) and Minnesota\u2019s <strong>Mackenzie Padington<\/strong> (15:47.16).<\/p>\n<p>Ledecky was part of an elite training group that practiced between NCAA sessions this weekend, along with <strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong>, <strong>Kelsi Dahlia, Ali DeLoof, Gabby DeLoof, Madisyn Cox, Bethany Galat<\/strong> and <strong>Lizzi Smith<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What do you do if you are the best swimmer in the world and you are back watching your former team aim for an NCAA title?
