Tonight&#8217;s action-packed session was full of close finishes, two ties and a broken record.<\/p>\n<p>Denison University, Kenyon College and Emory University brought home their fair share of wins this evening. Denison took the women&#8217;s 200 free relay with <strong>Drake Horton<\/strong>\u00a0winning the men&#8217;s 200 free for the big red. Emory did just the opposite, winning the men&#8217;s 200 free relay while looking to\u00a0<strong>Fiona Muir <\/strong>for an individual win in the women&#8217;s 200 free as well as a killer anchor leg to win the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>It was an exciting night for Kenyon as well with <strong>Michael Bartholomew <\/strong>winning a close 400 IM.<strong> David Fitch<\/strong> took first in the 100 fly with a record breaking time of 46.92 with teammate <strong>Jonathan Zimdars<\/strong> placing in top three as well.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/event\/swimming-men\/d3\/2019\/03\/20\/diii-swimming---diving--day-one---evening-session\">Men\u2019s Live Stream<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/event\/swimming-women\/d3\/2019\/03\/20\/diii-swimming---diving--day-one---evening-session\">Women\u2019s Live Stream<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greensboroaquaticcenter.com\/race-results?race=2019NCAADIII\">Live Results<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"wp-post-title content-title\">Women&#8217;s 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>It was a Denison relay win that kicked off this session of finals. The team of <strong>Madison Hopkins<\/strong>, <strong>Casey Kirby<\/strong>, <strong>Gabriella Nutter<\/strong> and <strong>KT Kustriz<\/strong> got to the wall first with a time of 1:32.28. Giving the Dennison women a close race was the Kenyon team of <strong>Andrea Perttula<\/strong>,<strong> Caylee Hamilton<\/strong>, <strong>Abigail Wilson<\/strong> and <strong>Emmerson Mirus.\u00a0<\/strong>The women finished a little off their prelims time with a 1:32.88.<\/p>\n<p>Also adding a bit from this morning were the Emory women. The junior also won the 200 IM last night.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the field the entire time, but falling to Honore at the very end was sophomore <strong>Molly Craig<\/strong> of Williams College. She dropped her prelims time by over five seconds finishing at a 4:15.46.<\/p>\n<p>Next to the wall was Emory freshman <strong>Clio Hancock<\/strong> finishing third with a time of 4:19.83. Only four hundredths of a second off her was Dennison junior <strong>Nata Zaravella<\/strong> finishing fourth (4:19.89).<\/p>\n<p>Fifth and sixth went to Emory senior<strong> Julia Durmer<\/strong> and Union junior <strong>Kerry Kelly<\/strong>. Both dropped time from prelims with Durmer taking fifth (4:21.12) and Kelly finishing sixth (2:24.53).<\/p>\n<p>In seventh with a time of 4:25.66 was Amherst senior <strong>Bridgitt Kwong<\/strong>. The Kenyon junior fought off the field finishing first with a time of 3:50.66. He finished tenth in the event last year. Coming in a close second with a time of 3:51.12 was teammate <strong>Bryan Fitzgerald<\/strong>. Fitzgerald was seeded a place above Bartholomew going into finals.<\/p>\n<p>Top seed freshman <strong>Zachary Lorson<\/strong> of Emory fell to third place this evening with a time of 3:51.40.<\/p>\n<p>Four and fifth went to Denison teammates and juniors\u00a0<strong>Robert Wang<\/strong> and<strong> Robert Williams. <\/strong>Wang finished fourth (3:51.46) with Williams taking fifth (3:51.70).<\/p>\n<p>The excitement continued with a tie for sixth between Emory freshman <strong>Jason Hamilton<\/strong> and Denison senior <strong>Matthew Hedman<\/strong>. Both finished with a time of 3:53.07.<\/p>\n<p>Finishing behind the field was junior <strong>Colin Reardon<\/strong> of Keyon finishing eighth (3:58.23).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-post-title content-title\">Women&#8217;s 100 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>It hasn&#8217;t always been smooth sailing for Williams senior <strong>Maia Hare<\/strong>, but this year she is the women&#8217;s 100 fly national champion. Hare swam in the consolation final both her freshman and sophomore year, while last year she didn&#8217;t qualify for finals at all. Tonight, however, she got to the wall first with a time of 54.58.<\/p>\n<p>The story was a bit different for top seed\u00a0<strong>Madison Hopkins<\/strong> of Denison. Leading the field during the last few yards, an extra stroke is what cost her the title. She finished second with a time of 54.75.<\/p>\n<p>There was another finals tie this evening, but this time for third. Junior <strong>Alison MacQueen<\/strong> of Washington and Lee University and sophomore <strong>Carolin Apathy<\/strong> of Bates College both finished with a time of 54.90.<\/p>\n<p>Only a hundredth behind them was sophomore <strong>Laurita May<\/strong> of Bowdoin College finishing fifth (54.91). His time of 46.92 not only won him first place, but also set a new meet record. Finishing next with a time of 47.47 was junior<strong> Bouke Edskes<\/strong> of MIT.<\/p>\n<p>Last year&#8217;s consolation final winner <strong>Jonathan Zimdars<\/strong> joined his Kenyon teammate in the top three this evening. Zimdars got to the wall with a time of 47.86.<\/p>\n<p>Coming in fourth with a time of 48.10 was sophomore <strong>Marco Conati<\/strong> of Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd Scripps College.\u00a0Finishing a close fifth with a time of 48.13 was junior <strong>Brandon Fabian<\/strong> of Johns Hopkins University.<\/p>\n<p>Emory freshman <strong>Hwamin Sim<\/strong> got to the wall sixth with a time of 48.25. Muir touched first with a time of 1:47.70 with Westphal just behind her at a 1:47.74.<\/p>\n<p>Getting to the wall third with a time of 1:48.85 was junior <strong>Rebecca Erwin<\/strong> of Birmingham Southern College. Sophomore\u00a0<strong>Patrick Sullivan<\/strong> of Washington and Lee to the wall fifth (1:38.57).<\/p>\n<p>Senior <strong>Bradley Stevenson<\/strong> joined his first-place finishing teammate in this championship final taking sixth (1:38.76). <strong>Kellen Stillman<\/strong> of Emory finished seventh (1:39.09) with sophomore <strong>Sulian Iturbe<\/strong> of Calvin College placing eighth (1:39.17).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-post-title content-title\">Women&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Emory took home another relay win this evening thanks to anchor leg <strong>Fiona Muir<\/strong>. Joining Muirs were teammates<strong> Caroline Olson<\/strong>, <strong>Ashley Daniels<\/strong> and <strong>Lucena Daro<\/strong>.
