Stanford has the lead in the team standings after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2019-ncaa-division-i-womens-swimming-and-diving-championships-800-free-relay-live-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">winning the 800 free relay<\/a> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford and Cal had the best mornings on Thursday in Austin, Texas as the Cardinal had five A-Finalists advance to tonight and Cal had four.<\/p>\n<p>Cal is on top of the prelims in the 200 free relay and Michigan is on top of the 400 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cierra Runge<\/strong>, Stanford&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> and Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>are on top in the individual events.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2019-ncaa-division-i-womens-day-two-prelims-heat-sheets-day-2-ncaa-college-2019-03-21.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Heat Sheets<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/texassports.com\/watch\">Live Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sidearmstats.com\/ncaa\/swimming\/index.htm\">Live Results<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>200 Free Relay<\/h2>\n<p>The Cal Golden Bears used a second-half surge to take the top seed in the 200 free relay, as <strong>Maddie Murphy<\/strong>, <strong>Katie<\/strong> <strong>McLaughlin<\/strong>, <strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong> and <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> finished in 1:26.25.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan took the early lead in the final heat with a 21.70 split by <strong>Maggie MacNeil<\/strong>, finishing just ahead of USC&#8217;s leadoff <strong>Marta Ciesla <\/strong>(21.90).<\/p>\n<p>But after a 21.37 split by McLaughlin, the back-half of Bilquist (21.57) and Weitzeil (21.11) was too much for the field as Cal finished ahead of the pack.<\/p>\n<p>The NCAA and American record was set by Stanford last year at 1:25.43, and Cal will look to go even faster to chase down that mark.<\/p>\n<p>But a stunning split by <strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> (20.94) gave Louisville (1:26.72) the second seed and Tennessee (1:26.89) took the third seed, from the second prelims heat, behind an anchor split of 21.13 by Erika Brown.<\/p>\n<p>Stanford took the fourth seed (1:26.91), followed by Michigan (1:26.92), NC State (1:27.12), Texas (1:27.33) and Auburn (1:27.40).<\/p>\n<p>Despite a fast start by Ciesla, USC just missed the finals, taking the ninth seed in 1:28.02. Missouri (1:28.13), Duke (1:28.64), Ohio State (1:28.61), Texas A&amp;M (1:28.82), Arizona (1:28.97), North Carolina (1:29.12) and Georgia 1:29.14) rounded out the top 16.<\/p>\n<p>Arkansas swimmer <strong>Anna Hopkin<\/strong> clocked a 20.97 split, but the Razorbacks did not reach the top 16 (1:29.96).<\/p>\n<pre><b> Event 2  Women 200 Yard Freestyle Relay<\/b>\r\n====================================================================\r\n         NCAA: I 1:25.43  15-Mar-18 Stanford\r\n                          J. <strong>Cierra Runge<\/strong> had plenty left in the tank for a strong finish in the 500 free prelims. The junior had a final split of 27.07 to take the top seed for tonight\u2019s final in 4:34.64.<\/p>\n<p>No one is expected to approach <strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>\u2019s record time of 4:24.06, set at the 2017 NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>But there are two Stanford swimmers in the final. <strong>Brooke Forde<\/strong> took the second seed in 4:34.97 and <strong>Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> heads to the finals with the sixth seed in 4:35.80.<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota has two in the final with <strong>Chantal Nack<\/strong> taking the third spot (4:35.47) and <strong>Mackenzie Padington<\/strong> taking the fifth (4:35.70).<\/p>\n<p>Virginia\u2019s <strong>Paige Madden<\/strong> took the fourth spot in 4:35.65. Texas sophomore <strong>Evie Pfeifer<\/strong> was seventh (4:36.04) and Georgia\u2019s <strong>Courtney Harnish<\/strong> took the eighth seed (4:37.30) .<\/p>\n<p>Last year\u2019s runner-up there were a couple of surprises.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan\u2019s <strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> was disqualified for multiple butterfly kicks during her breaststroke pullout. Her time was fast enough to make the finals.<\/p>\n<p>The other surprise was that <strong>Lilly King<\/strong> did not make the top 16. Though not her top event, King has scored in the IM in previous years. She finished 21st (1:56.83).<\/p>\n<p>Behind Eastin was Texas A&amp;M\u2019s <strong>Sydney Pickrem<\/strong>, second in 1:52.75.<\/p>\n<p>Wisconsin\u2019s <strong>Beata Nelson<\/strong> took the third seed in 1:52.83, followed by USC\u2019s <strong>Louise Hansson<\/strong> (1:53.50), Kentucky\u2019s <strong>Asia<\/strong> <strong>Seidt<\/strong> (1:5351), South Carolina\u2019s<strong> Emma They are ahead of Big Ten rival Indiana (3:27.89) as the Hoosiers, who defeated Michigan at Big Tens, placed second this morning. The Indiana women have never won a relay at NCAAs and this could be their best shot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Morgan Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(52.01),\u00a0<strong>Lilly King\u00a0<\/strong>(56.47),\u00a0<strong>Christie Jensen\u00a0<\/strong>(51.46) and\u00a0<strong>Shelby Koontz\u00a0<\/strong>(47.95) swam for the Hoosiers as they will have lane five in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Cal is the third seed with a 3:28.03 this morning from Austin, Texas with\u00a0<strong>Keaton Blovad\u00a0<\/strong>(52.26),\u00a0<strong>Ema Rajic\u00a0<\/strong>(58.74),\u00a0<strong>Katie McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>(50.26) and\u00a0<strong>Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>(46.77) swimming for them.<\/p>\n<p>NC State (3:28.20), Louisville (3:28.47), Virginia (3:29.71), Minnesota (3:29.93) and Stanford (3:30.19) also qualified for the A-Final as the race could come down between four or five teams for the national title.
