The Emory women and Denison men entered prelims with the advantage, but as the teams squared off for point-scoring night swims, it soon became anyone&#8217;s game.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/event\/swimming-men\/d3\/2019\/03\/20\/diii-swimming---diving--day-one---evening-session\">Men&#8217;s Live Stream<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncaa.com\/event\/swimming-women\/d3\/2019\/03\/20\/diii-swimming---diving--day-one---evening-session\">Women&#8217;s Live Stream<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greensboroaquaticcenter.com\/race-results?race=2019NCAADIII\">Live Results<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>The first event&#8217;s results closely mirrored the psych sheet, with few surprises going into the championship final. Denison took its first step in attempting to dethrone Emory, seizing the top seed going into tonight with its lethal combination of <strong>Madison Hopkins<\/strong>,<strong> Casey Kirby<\/strong>, <strong>Gabriella Nutter,<\/strong> and <strong>Katherine Kustritz<\/strong> who touched in with a time of 1:32.28. Kenyon (1:32.88) slid into second in the final two legs of the race, where <strong>Abigail Wilson <\/strong>and<strong> Emmerson Mirus<\/strong> split sub-23 to cinch the next best seed along with their teammates<strong> Andrea Perttula <\/strong>and <strong>Caylee Hamilton<\/strong>. It was a heart-breaker for Emory fans, as <strong>Sage<\/strong> <strong>Ono<\/strong>, <strong>Zachary<\/strong> <strong>Chen<\/strong>, <strong>Colin<\/strong> <strong>Lafave<\/strong>, and <strong>Trey<\/strong> <strong>Kolleck<\/strong> just missed the middle lane with a time of 1:20.49. Having prevented an Emory 1-2 sweep, Craig will separate <strong>Clio Hancock<\/strong> (4:21.11) and <strong>Julia Durmer<\/strong> (4:21.35) in the finals lanes tonight with hopes of establishing a presence for the Ephs. Out-splitting both her competitors in the fly leg, Craig will need to capitalize on that front-end speed for tonight&#8217;s championship.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the second wave of finalists was Denison&#8217;s <strong>Natalie Zaravella, <\/strong>who\u00a0dropped a 4:23.86 to secure fourth, courtesy of a strong back-half race to edge out NYU&#8217;s <strong>Honore Collins<\/strong> (4:24.92). By no means was she alone, however, as W&amp;L&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alison Macqueen\u00a0<\/strong>stroked in for the finish just 0.07 later, beating Williams&#8217; <strong>Maia Hare<\/strong> (54.75) with a time of 54.58. With all three women splitting nearly identical final 50s, the race may come down to the fastest off the block, something Hopkins does especially well.<\/p>\n<p>Seeded second on the psych sheet, Ursinus senior <strong>Clara Baker<\/strong> (54.88) dropped to fourth in this morning&#8217;s swim ahead of Bowdoin&#8217;s <strong>Mary Laurita<\/strong> (54.95). Bate&#8217;s <strong>Caroline Apathy<\/strong> (55.07), NYU&#8217;s <strong>Terra Matsushima<\/strong> (55.31) and <strong>Zoe Whelan<\/strong> (55.37) rounded out the A-final with impressive swims across the board. MIT cinched its first A-finals swim of the day with a stellar swim by <strong>Bouke Edskes <\/strong>(47.86), one that sets him up well to rake in major points for the prestigious institution later tonight. Kenyon&#8217;s <strong>Jonathon Zimdars<\/strong> just eclipsed the sub-48 mark, positioning himself on the other side of Fitch for tonight&#8217;s battle for the championship.
