THERE was some hot diving this weekend, as the nation&#39;s top collegiate divers competed for a berth at the NCAA women&#39;s and men&#39;s swimming and diving championships.  Here are some of the highlights:<\/p>\n<p><b>Katie Williams, Justin Dumais Take Platform Titles at Zone D Diving Champs<\/b><br \/>\nFAYETTEVILLE, Ark., March 16.  KATIE Williams of Texas A&#038;M and Justin Dumais, Texas, won the women&#39;s and men&#39;s 10-meter platform titles at the NCAA Zone D Regional Diving Championships today.  The two-day competition was held at the Arkansas Natatorium in Fayetteville.<\/p>\n<p>Williams led a one-two Aggie sweep, scoring 414.65 points, with teammate Callie Petroff right behind with 405.50.  Texas&#39; Monica Maxwell placed third (373.75).<\/p>\n<p>There was little suspense in the men&#39;s event, as Justin Dumais easily defeated hs more celebrated younger brother, Troy, 601.75 to 546.95. Harold Hyde made it a Longhorn sweep, placing third with 493.80 points.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Texas qualified a total of six divers to compete at the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, which could play a major role in the team scoring at the NCAAs.<\/p>\n<p>Qualifying on the men&#39;s side were seniors Troy Dumais (Ventura, Calif.), Justin Dumais (Ventura, Calif.), Harold Hyde (Austin, Texas) and freshman Jonathan Linette (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.).  UT women&#39;s qualifier were sophomore Ally Hartzell (Austin, Texas) and freshman Nicole Pohorenec (Winter Springs, Fla.).  <\/p>\n<p>Texas A&#038;M qualified four divers for the NCAAs: Three-time Big 12 champion Meghan Zack, sophomore Katie Williams and junior Callie Petroff.  Houston&#39; Russian Olympian and defending NCAA champ, Yulia Pakhalina, was the top female qualifier.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#39;s side, Aggie senior Jesse Even an NCAA berth after placing fourth on the one-meter board and eighth on the 10-meter platform.<\/p>\n<p>The Zone Diving Championships determine which divers will proceed to the NCAA Championships.  Each zone receives a minimum of four spots for men and women.  The guaranteed spots fill 20 of the 35 diving spots for the men and women at the NCAA Championships. Shaunah Parrish (Northern Iowa), 217.80 <\/p>\n<p><b>USC&#39;s Blythe Hartley Completes Sweep at Zone E<\/b><br \/>\nSTANFORD, Calif., March 16.  USC&#39;s Blythe Hartley completed a three-day sweep at the 2002 NCAA Zone E Diving Meet by winning the women&#39;s platform event on the final day of competition at the Maas Family Diving Center. <\/p>\n<p>Hartley, who had won the women&#39;s 1-meter on Thursday and the 3-meter on Friday, scored 482.45 for the victory. <\/p>\n<p>Arizona&#39;s Ruben Vaca also helped the Wildcats earn a clean sweep in the men&#39;s competition with a victory in the platform (499.85).  Vaca&#39;s teammate Omar Ojeda had swept the first two days of competition with wins in the men&#39;s 3-meter on Thursday and the 1-meter on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 15 divers (nine women, six men) qualified for the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships during the three-day NCAA Zone E Meet.<\/p>\n<p>Women divers qualifying for the NCAAs were Kellie Brennan (USC), Claire Febvay (Arizona), Dominica Fusaro (USC), Hartley, Kim Powers (Stanford), Heidi Prosser (UCLA), Ashlee Rosenthal (Stanford), Erica Sorgi (Stanford) and Alexis Sowa (Stanford). <\/p>\n<p>Brennan and Febvay were the new qualifiers on Saturday. Brennan reached the NCAA\u00b9s due to her fourth-place effort in the 1-meter on Thursday, while Febvay&#39;s third-place finish in the platform<br \/>\nqualified her for the NCAA\u00b9s.<\/p>\n<p>Men divers qualifying for the NCAA\u00b9s were Josh Anderson (Arizona), Andy Bradley (BYU), Ojeda, Adam Peterson (Stanford), Vaca and Justin Wilcock (BYU). <\/p>\n<p>Vaca and Bradley joined the other four previous men&#39;s qualifiers on Saturday. MIAMI&#39;s Kyle Prandi and LSU&#39;s Barb Gorst were the winners of the 10-meter platform event at the NCAA Zone B Championships today.<\/p>\n<p>Prandi won the men&#39;s event with 556.85 points, with teammate Miguel Velasquez third with 513.05.  Swqueezed between the two Hurricanes was Auburn frosh Matt Bricker (542.60).<\/p>\n<p>Gorst scored 445.80 to take the women 10-meter crown.
