EMMA Igelstrom completed a remarkable performance at the Swedish Short Course Championships in Goteborg today, by breaking her own European record in the women&#39;s 100 meter breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Igelstrom split 31.32 on her way to a final time of 1:05.93, making her the first European to crack 1:06.  It was the third time the Swedish sprinter has broken the European record in this event this year.  South africa&#39;s Penny Heyns holds the world mark at 1:05.40.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in this meet, Igelstrom broke the world record for 50 meters (30.24) and the Swedish national record for 200 meters breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>In other events today, Sara Nordenstam was a double winner, taking the 200m fly in 2:11.09, then coming back in the very next women&#39;s event to win the 200 IM in 2:14.84.  In both events, she led from start to finish.  Igelstrom had qualified first in the medley at 2:15.31, but scratched the final to concentrate on the 100m breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p>Anna-Karin Kammerling, best known as a fly\/free sprinter, took the 50 back in 28.79, beating out Therese Alshammar at 29.07. <\/p>\n<p>Ann Berglund won the 800 free in 8:44.98 for her econd win of the meet.  Erlier she had taken the 400 in 4:12+.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic champion Lars Frolander won the men&#39;s 100m butterfly in 52.28 seconds, with Tero Valimaa second in 52.60.  Fro led by 54-hundredths at the halfway point, 24.36 &#8211; 24.90.  Valimaa came on in the final 50, but did not have enough to catch the flying Fro.<\/p>\n<p>Jens Johansson, who won the 100m breaststroke two days ago, took the 50 today in a smart 28.08 seconds.  Tied for 24th place was 45 year-old Glen Christiansen, in 30.37.  This meet marked the start Christiansen&#39;s fourth decade of Swedish Nationals swimming.  The two-time Olympian marked his 31st consecutive year of competing at his nation&#39;s nationals.<\/p>\n<p>Christiansen&#39;s time bettered his own, recently-set, Masters world mark of 30.60 for men 45-49.<\/p>\n<p>Jesper Levander, 22, who won the 400 free yesterday, added the 200 today.  Levander&#39;s 1:49.23 was enough to hold off Jonas Persson, at 1:49.80.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Hellstrom won the 400 IM in 4;22.83, after trailing Daniel Hallden for the first 200 meters.  Hallden faded to fourth in the final half of the race.<\/p>\n<p>Sodertonns SS won the men&#39;s 4x 100m free relay in 3:17.92, out-touching Allmanna SS by two-tenths of a second.  Sodertonns come-from-behind victory was anchored by Stefan Nystrand&#39;s 47.53.
