The 2019 Speedo Sectionals in Rochester have officially begun. Hosted at the Rochester Rec Center in Minnesota, the meet includes 90 participating teams with swimmers varying in all age categories. Day one of competition will feature the men’s and women’s 800 meter free as well as the men’s and women’s 800 meter free relay.<\/p>\n

After Day one of swimming, team scores of the top eight (combined men’s and women’s scores) are as follows:<\/p>\n

  1. Scottsdale Aquatic Club – 134<\/li>\n
  2. CommonWealth Swimming – 119<\/li>\n
  3. Empire Swimming – 106<\/li>\n
  4. Rochester Swim Club – 85<\/li>\n
  5. Sioux Falls Swim Team – 53<\/li>\n
  6. Foxjets Swim Team – 52<\/li>\n
  7. Badger Aquatics Club – 46<\/li>\n
  8. Glenbrook Swim Club – 40<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Women’s 800 Meter Free<\/h3>\n

    Your 2019 Speedo Sectionals Rochester champion in the women’s 800 meter free is Ashley Strouse<\/strong> from Scottsdale Aquatic Club finishing nearly 14 seconds ahead of the pack with a time of 8:54.06. Second place went Commonwealth Swimming member Natalie Mannion<\/strong> with a time of 9:08.04. Emily Ecker<\/strong> from Portland Porpoise Swim Club finished in third with a time of 9:10.19 It was a battle for fourth place in the event as Scottsdale Aquatic Club swimmer Kara Church<\/strong> and Eastern Iowa Swim Federation swimmer Megan Susil battled it out. However, Church finished just ahead of Susil in fourth place with a time of 9:11.12, meanwhile Susil was right behind her at 9:11.82. Sixth place went to another Eastern Iowa Federation swimmer Audrey Repko<\/strong> finishing with a time of 9:14.89. Sahar Mumtaz<\/strong> from Commonwealth Swimming finished in seventh with a time of 9:15.89. The final swimmer to place within the top eight was Genevieve Jorgenson<\/strong> from Aberdeen Swim Club with a time of 9:20.97.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 800 Meter Free<\/h3>\n

    It was a battle for a gold medal in the first men’s event of the 2019 Speedo Sectionals in Rochester. Unattached swimmer Dylan Moffatt<\/strong> was ahead for the majority of the race. It came down to the last 100 meters of the event where Fond Du LAC Swim Club swimmer Chrisitan Hedeen<\/strong> slightly pulled ahead of Moffatt, out-touching him at the wall as he finished in first with a time of 8:29.45. Moffatt was right behind Hedeen finishing at 8:29.68. Third place went to Rochester Swim Club swimmer Elias Petri<\/strong> with a time of 8:4285. Tyson Tucci<\/strong> from Bloomington Normal Swim Club finished in fourth with a time of 8:43.39. Fifth place went to Marvin Schwickert<\/strong> from Scottsdale Aquatic Club with a time of 8:46.39. Touching the wall at 8:47.06 was sixth place finisher Hubert Huang<\/strong> from Commonwealth Swimming. Colin Kilcoin<\/strong> from Piranhas Swim Club came in 7th place with a time of 8:52.00, and capping of the top eight was another Commonwealth swimmer, William Fuchs<\/strong> with a time of 8:52.97.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 800 Meter Relay<\/h3>\n

    The women of Commonwealth Swimming dominated the 800 free relay. Collen Whittaker<\/strong>, Eliza Brown<\/strong>, S. Mumtaz, and N. Mannion took home a gold medal in the event finishing with a time of 8:49.77, a solid seven seconds ahead of second place thanks to Mannnion anchoring for the Commonwealth girls splitting a quick 2:04.07. Silver went to Empire Swimming with a time of 8:42.07, and Bronze went to Scottsdale Aquatic Club finishing with a time of 8:45.34.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 800 Meter Free Relay<\/h3>\n

    The champions in the men’s 800 meter free relay of the 2019 Speedo Sectionals in Rochester are the boys from Glenbrook Swim Club finishing with a time of 7:49.66. Jacob Shapiro, Sami Moussally, Michael Hadjiivanov, and Ryan Purdy<\/strong> were Glenbrook members that aided in grabbing gold in the event. The relay dropped nearly three seconds from their seed time and finished well ahead of other teams. Second place went to Empire Swimming with a time of 7:53.93 and Scottsdale Aquatic Club finished in third with a time of 8:04.51.<\/p>\n
