The meet, also known as the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships, is hosted by the South Florida Aquatic Club.<\/p>\n
Alia Atkinson<\/strong> won two events and there was a tie for first in the men’s 100 fly.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Sarasota\u2019s Emma Weyant<\/strong> started the session off with a strong victory in 200 free. The 17-year-old finished in 2:01.97, nearly two seconds ahead of the rest of the field.<\/p>\n Nikki Miller<\/strong> finished second in 2:03.38, followed by South Florida\u2019s Mary Smutny<\/strong> (2:14.16).<\/p>\n East Coast\u2019s Ella Martinez<\/strong> took fourth (2:04.90), followed by Talia Bates<\/strong> (2:05.10), Savannah Barr<\/strong> (2:05.28), Michelle Morgan<\/strong> (2:06.71) and Carlie<\/strong> Rose<\/strong> (2:07.84).<\/p>\n Gator Swim Club\u2019s Santiago Corredor<\/strong> cruised to victory in the men\u2019s 200 free, clocking a 1:52.33.<\/p>\n He held off Gabriel Araya<\/strong>, who finished in 1:53.62.<\/p>\n Gator\u2019s Julian Hill<\/strong> finished third (1:53.79), followed by Andres Wong<\/strong> (1:57.06), Kamal Muhammad<\/strong> (1:57.27), Varis Monroe<\/strong> (1:58.14), Mikael<\/strong> Getahoun<\/strong> (1:58.79) and Jacob Hack<\/strong> (2:00.05).<\/p>\n South Florida\u2019s Alia Atkinson<\/strong> predictably crushed the field in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:08.79. The former world champion from Jamaica outdistanced the field by more than five seconds.<\/p>\n Saint Andrew\u2019s Shayna Fetes<\/strong> finished second in 1:13.99, followed by Micaela Sierra<\/strong> (1:15.60), Gracie Weyant<\/strong> (1:15.61), Cali Wilson<\/strong> (1:15.63), Patricia Casillas<\/strong> (1:16.02), Jayla Pina<\/strong> (1:16.56) and Tara Cabiling<\/strong> (1:16.66).<\/p>\n Berkeley\u2019s Ryaan Hatoum<\/strong> held off Lukas Macek<\/strong> to win the men\u2019s 100 breast in the closest race of the day \u2014 until a surprising tie later.<\/p>\n Hatoum won the event in 1:05.20, holding off Macek (1:05.29).<\/p>\n Hector Rodriguez<\/strong> was third (1:06.54), followed by Arnold Luk<\/strong> (1:06.68), Luke Shourds<\/strong> (1:06.87), Christian March<\/strong> (1:07.44), Jacob Budnitz<\/strong> (1:07.49) and Joshua Hanks<\/strong> (1:07.74).<\/p>\n Caitlin Brooks<\/strong> won the 50 back in 28.92. The 18-year-old from Gator Swim Club was the only one in the field to break 30.<\/p>\n Azura\u2019s Celina Martinez<\/strong> was second (30.16), followed by Megan Murphy<\/strong> (30.22), Claire Timson<\/strong> (30.31), Gabriela Donahue<\/strong> (30.39), Eboni McCarty<\/strong> (30.66), Madison Cummings<\/strong> (30.87) and Caitlin Romprey<\/strong> (31.56).<\/p>\n Steven Aimable<\/strong> hung on to win the men\u2019s 50 back in 27.16. Payton Plumb<\/strong> of Southern Utah was second in 27.50, followed by Azura\u2019s Matheo Mateos<\/strong> (27.58).<\/p>\n Flood Aquatics\u2019 Joshua Zuchowski<\/strong> was fourth (27.72), followed by Ashton Anderson<\/strong> (27.79), Joshua Balbi<\/strong> (27.80), William Mahone<\/strong> (27.83) and Benjamin Wilson<\/strong> (28.39).<\/p>\n Alia Atkinson<\/strong> made it 2-for-2 by winning the 100 fly in 1:01.38.<\/p>\n Talia Bates<\/strong> was second (1:01.42), followed by Abigail Gibbons<\/strong> (1:01.47), Madison Cummings<\/strong> (1:02.23), Jennifer Secrest<\/strong> (1:03.10), Alexandra<\/strong> Maszaros<\/strong> (1:03.44), Isabel Traba<\/strong> (1:03.47) and Savannah Barr<\/strong> (1:04.33).<\/p>\n Kamal Muhammad<\/strong> and Gabriel Araya<\/strong> tied to win the 100 fly in 55.63, touching the wall together.<\/p>\n Blake Wilton<\/strong> finished third in 55.82, followed by Steven Aimable<\/strong> (56.60), Bryan Alvarez<\/strong> (56.89), Juan Zapata<\/strong> (57.29), Mikael Getahoun<\/strong> (57.38) and Preston Harrison<\/strong> (57.46).<\/p>\n Sumner Chimielewski<\/strong> was one of three 14-year-olds to break 4:57 in the 400 IM, winning in 4:55.06.<\/p>\n Michaela Mattes<\/strong> (4:56.36) was second, followed by Michelle Morgan<\/strong> (4:56.69).<\/p>\n Anna Auld<\/strong> was fourth (4:58.84), followed by Mallory Schleiche<\/strong>r (5:04.62), Kathleen Golding<\/strong> (5:06.96), Gracie Weyant<\/strong> (5:08.08) and Mercedes Traba<\/strong> (5:09.14).<\/p>\n Alexander Gusev<\/strong> won big in the 400 IM, winning in 4:30.94, besting the field by nine seconds.<\/p>\n Joshua Zuchowski<\/strong> was second (4:39.01), followed by Matheo Mateos<\/strong> (4:39.13), Rafael Rodriguez<\/strong> (4:39.27), Juan Zapata<\/strong> (4:40.87), Zachary<\/strong> Szmania<\/strong> (4:41.13), Luke Shourds<\/strong> (4:41.20) and Santiago Corredor<\/strong> was disqualified for a one-hand touch.<\/p>\n Sarasota YMCA\u2019s Emma Weyant, Savannah Barr, Addison Sauickie<\/strong> and Christina Cianciolo<\/strong> won the 800 free relay in 8:27.30.<\/p>\n East Coast was second (8:36.35) and Sarasota\u2019s B team was third (8:40.73).<\/p>\n Azura\u2019s Mathew Mateos, Franco Lupoli, Sidrell Williams<\/strong> and Juan Zapata<\/strong> won the 800 free relay in 7:58.36.<\/p>\n Sarasota was second (7:59.40), followed by Metro (8:01.45).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The 2019 Speedo Sectional in Plantation, Florida, continue on Friday.
