He was also the runner-up in the 100 Butterfly behind\u00a0Florida State&#8217;s <strong>Kanoa Kaleoaloha. <\/strong>To end the session, Stewart re-broke the mark in the leadoff leg of the 400 Medley Relay.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia senior <strong>Brendan Casey <\/strong>and\u00a0Louisville teammates\u00a0<strong>Bartosz Piszczorowicz<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Evgenii Somov<\/strong> held onto their top seeds from the preliminaries in the 400 IM, 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>With one day remaining, NC State has the lead with 919.5 points. The senior did not make the A final in this event last year where he swam a 46.16 for tenth. Out nearly-even at the fifty, he was able to edge out NC State&#8217;s <strong>Coleman Stewart<\/strong> who earned runner-up honors in 45.09. The swim is Stewart&#8217;s second best swim of his career.<\/p>\n<p>Teammate <strong>Noah Hensley<\/strong> had a similar battle for third with Louisville sophomore <strong>Nicolas Albiero<\/strong>. Hensley took the race 45.33 to 45.37. Both men were under last year&#8217;s NCAA invited time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bryce Keblish<\/strong> and<strong> Zachary Fong<\/strong> of Virginia took fifth and sixth, respectively in 45.51 and 45.70. The swim was just off the NCAA cut and Conference Record but was a lifetime best by two seconds. Casey used a strong backstroke leg to separate himself from the competition, out-splitting the field in 53.71.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s <strong>Eric Knowles<\/strong> also earned a personal best time with his second-place swim of 3:42.09. Teammate <strong>Andrej Barna<\/strong> also won the &#8216;B&#8217; final in 1:34.56. This is the first time Somov has been under 52 seconds in this event as he was just off the Pool Record and NCAA &#8216;A&#8217; cut. Right behind was Georgia Tech&#8217;s Caio Pumputis also got a best time in 52.07 for second. He was followed closely by Albiero, who picked up an NCAA &#8216;A&#8217; cut and personal best in the event with his swim go 44.88. The Cardinals also had two other swimmers in the heat with efforts from <strong>Mitchell Whyte<\/strong> (45.38) and <strong>Nik Sofianidis<\/strong> (46.09).<\/p>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Joe Clark<\/strong> posted a quick 45.22 for third, while NC State&#8217;s Hensley was fifth in 45.49. Despite a charging 41.50 split from Barna, the Cardinals did not quite have enough to catch NC State after a solid lead built at the 200 mark.
