Here&#8217;s to watch for in this weekend&#8217;s competition!<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/zqsVgygzov\">https:\/\/t.co\/zqsVgygzov<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GYOM5a9MlB\">pic.twitter.com\/GYOM5a9MlB<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 USA Diving (@USADiving) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/USADiving\/status\/1101270967123431429?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 1, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Gilliland and Young placed eighth overall after scoring 282.18 points in the women\u2019s platform synchro final. The pair held onto sixth place through the first four rounds of competition, but dropped down to eighth place despite saving their strongest dive, a back 2 \u00bd somersaults with 1 \u00bd twists for 66.24 points, in the final round.<\/p>\n<p>The pair finished half a point behind Japan\u2019s <strong>Matsuri Arai<\/strong> and <strong>Minami Itahashi<\/strong>, who moved up from eight place to seventh place to wrap up competition. China\u2019s <strong>Lu Wei<\/strong> and <strong>Zhang Jiaqi<\/strong> captured the gold with 340.44 points, while <strong>Kim A Rim<\/strong> and <strong>Kim Mi Rae<\/strong> of the People\u2019s Republic of Korea finished 20.94 points behind to earn the silver medal. <strong>Meaghan Benefeito<\/strong> and <strong>Caeli McKay<\/strong> of Canada won the bronze medal with 311.70 points.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s platform synchro final, Downs and Rzepka finished seventh with 358.95 total points. The pair, who competed in their second international event together, began the first three rounds of finals at sixth place before slipping down to seventh in the fourth round. With a back 3 \u00bd tuck in the fifth round for 62.37 points, the pair inched back up to sixth place with one round remaining.<\/p>\n<p>Despite saving their best dive for last, a back 2 \u00bd somersaults with 1 \u00bd twists for 69.12 points, the teenage duo finished seventh. Japan\u2019s <strong>Hiroki Ito<\/strong> and <strong>Kazuki Murakami<\/strong> completed competition at sixth place, leading Downs and Rzepka by 2.04 points. <strong>Cao Yuan<\/strong> and <strong>Chen Aisen<\/strong> clinched first place with 465.24 points, while Russia\u2019s <strong>Aleksandr Bondar<\/strong> and <strong>Viktor Minibaev<\/strong> finished 44.79 points behind to take home the silver medal. <strong>Domonic Bedggood<\/strong> and <strong>Declan Stacey<\/strong> of Australia won the bronze medal after finishing with 403.53 points.<\/p>\n<p>The World Series \u2013 Sagamihara continues Friday morning at 2 am ET with <strong>Mark Anderson<\/strong> (Lake Forest, Calif.\/Austin, Texas) joining Downs in the men\u2019s 3-meter synchro. Due to injury, <strong>Maria Coburn<\/strong> (Austin, Texas) and <strong>Krysta Palmer<\/strong> (Carson City, Nev.\/Reno, Nev.) have been scratched from the women\u2019s 3-meter synchro final.
