During the first full prelims session of the men’s ACC swimming championships, NC State was the dominant team, with Wolfpack swimmers recording the top qualifying time in all three events contested. NC State is bidding for its fifth straight conference title this week in Greensboro, N.C.<\/p>\n

500 Free<\/h3>\n
NC State sophomore\u00a0Eric Knowles\u00a0<\/strong>posted the top qualifying mark in the 500 free, his time of 4:13.79 putting him a half-second ahead of Virginia’s\u00a0Brendan Casey\u00a0<\/strong>(4:14.30). Louisville’s\u00a0Marcelo Acosta\u00a0<\/strong>qualified third in 4:14.96, and then there was a gap back to the rest of the field.<\/p>\n
Virginia Tech’s\u00a0Lane Stone\u00a0<\/strong>was fourth in 4:16.26, followed by Notre Dame’s\u00a0Zach Yeadon\u00a0<\/strong>in 4:16.75. NC State’s\u00a0Gil Kiesler\u00a0<\/strong>(4:16.92) and\u00a0John McIntyre<\/strong> (4:17.73) qualified sixth and seventh, respectively, to join Knowles in the final, and Virginia’s\u00a0Sam Magnan<\/strong> finished eighth in 4:17.83 to join Casey.<\/p>\n

NC State’s\u00a0Andreas Vazaios\u00a0<\/strong>will go for a third consecutive conference title in the 200 IM after the senior qualified first for the final in 1:42.39, about a second ahead of Georgia Tech’s\u00a0Caio Pumputis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.34). Virginia’s\u00a0Ted Schubert\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.49) and Louisville’s\u00a0Daniel Sos\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.74) took third and fourth, respectively.<\/p>\n
Virginia Tech teammates\u00a0Samuel Tornqvist\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.75) and\u00a0Norbert Szabo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.85) and Virginia’s\u00a0Bryce Keblish\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.98) also broke 1:44, and another Cavalier,\u00a0Zach Fong<\/strong>, took eighth in 1:44.34.<\/p>\n

The Wolfpack put four swimmers total in the A-final, with\u00a0Nyls Korstanje\u00a0<\/strong>(19.31),\u00a0Giovanni Izzo\u00a0<\/strong>(19.53) and Cobe Garcia\u00a0<\/strong>(19.56) joining Ress.<\/p>\n
Louisville’s Andrej Barna\u00a0<\/strong>took fourth in 19.33, followed by Pitt’s Blaise Vera\u00a0<\/strong>(19.34) and Virginia Tech’s\u00a0Ian Ho<\/strong> (19.50) in fifth and sixth, respectively.<\/p>\n
