Swimmers from Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale all made a splash on the first day of the 2019 Ivy League Conference at Brown University’s Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The lineup featured the men’s 200 medley relay and the men’s 800 free relay. Team Scores from Day one can be found below.<\/p>\n

Results<\/a> from day one at the 2019 Ivy League Men’s Conference conclude that Harvard is a force to be reckoned with as it claims gold medals and meet records in all swimming events tonight. Moreover, there is extremely tough competition at this meet as other Ivy teams race to score points to break ties between third and seventh place currently.<\/p>\n
Team Rankings after the first day of competition puts Harvard at the top of the pack by 20 points. Meanwhile, other teams are neck and neck with each other. A three way tie between Brown, Princeton, and Columbia; as well as a tie for seventh place between Cornell and Dartmouth will result in an exciting races to come in following sessions.<\/p>\n
Men’s 200 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n
The Harvard men took home a gold medal in the 200 medley relay finishing over a second and a half ahead of second place finishers University of Pennsylvania. Harvard swimmers Dean Farris, Daniel Chang, Umit Gures and Raphael Marcoux<\/strong> were the four members that led Harvard to gold in the event.\u00a0Farris\u00a0<\/strong>split a quick 20.83 in the backstroke leg of the relay. University of Pennsylvania put up a tough fight in the breaststroke portion with senior Mark Andrew<\/strong> splitting one hundredth of a second faster than Harvard’s breaststroker. Yet, Harvard surpassed the other competitors in the remainder of the relay wining the event with a final time of 1:24.33.<\/p>\n
Penn men finished in second place with a time of 1:25.88 while Brown finished in third with a time of 1:25.92.\u00a0Harvard’s first place finish earned them the new meet record and marked them as 4X reigning champions in the event. The previous record was swam by Harvard last year with a time of 1:24.52.<\/p>\n

Men’s 800 Free Relay<\/h3>\n
Harvard also took home a first place finish and earned themselves another meet record in the men’s 800 free relay with swimmers Brennan Novak, Mahlon Reihman, Corban Rawls<\/strong> and Dean Farris. Finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of second place finishers Yale, Harvard touched the wall at 6:15.38, shaving a solid 25 seconds off of their seed time. Farris again turned out to be a key swimmer for Harvard as he anchored the relay taking the race home with a split of 1:30.22. Furthermore, with a time of 6:15.38, Harvard men swam well under the NCAA Division I A standard of 6:18.46.<\/p>\n
The Yale Bulldogs came in second place just out-touching Princeton with a time of 6:24.35. After the third leg of the relay Princeton was almost a full second and a half ahead of Yale. However, Yale senior Adrian Lin<\/strong> split a solid 1:33.89 getting Yale a silver medal. Princeton finished in third posting a time of 6:25.38.<\/p>\n
